Time out with mum!
Working mothers tell you how to make the best use of the time spent with your child.
Try to be a part of everything your child does
Style diva Malaika Arora-Khan says there is no excuse for not spending enough time with your child. "It's all about time management. Everybody around me is a working mother but they do manage to give enough time to their kids. I know it's not easy juggling your work and child, but you have to prioritise things. I think the best way to spend time with your child is to try to be a part of their everyday life. Accompanying them to the school annual day or dropping them to a friend's birthday party gives them immense joy."
Educate, Educate, Educate
TV actor Poonam Narula-Goel believes that one should make it a point to take one's child (especially between the age of 1-2) to a park, zoo, aquarium or a library. "Rather than taking them to a relative's place, take them to these places where they can grasp so much. I sometimes take my two-year-old son Aarya to my husband Manish's (Goel) sets so that he knows what papa does for a living. That is also education for him."
Understand what they enjoy most and participate in that
Actor/singer Suchitra Krishnamurthy-Kapur thinks spending time with your child should not be a forced job. "Don't stress or kill yourself for not spending enough time with your child. Try and make your time together special by taking them to places where they want to go. I make it a point to take Kaveri to a party or accompany her with her friends for a movie. Children are happiest then."
Listen to your child
Actor Poonam Dhillon says she does not believe in the concept of quality time. "This is an excuse that mothers use for their own convenience. I understand that for an average working mother it is difficult to take out lots of time for their child. But make sure that when you are with them, you cuddle them and listen when they share their day to day activities. Parents generally tend not to listen and are either busy disciplining them or making them study. I make sure that I spend some time every night with my children and it's great to hear them say, 'Mom you are my best friend!' Only a child can make you feel that special."
