'Why can't we kiss on the small screen?'

Aparna Tilak feels Indian audience is ready to watch bold scenes on TV

HARSHADA REGE

Till recently, Aparna Tilak was best remembered as Rashmi from Family No 1. Her comedy act won her praise, but it also slotted her as a comedy actor. "Yes that was very scary. I was sure that after Family No 1, I won't be offered any serious roles. And that's what happened. I got many roles that were very similar. In fact I was worried that people would start laughing even if I was doing an emotional scene," says Aparna. So, Aparna decided to take a break and wait for the right role. She later signed on Koi Apna Sa that was produced by Ekta Kapoor. Aparna says, "She dared to offer me something against my image. And that really helped me." Aparna returned to comedy with Hello Friends which was adapted from the popular serial Friends. However, the serial failed to strike a chord with the audiences. Aparna, who was playing Rachel's character, says, "Friends had certain jokes and situations that had sexual undertones, we couldn't adapt them. It would have become like a sex comedy. But sex comedies don't work on Indian television." The actor who is now seen as Dr Shalini in Left right Left says that the role has helped her divert from her image. "I get to bond with all the youngsters in the serial. Also, people have started recognising me as Dr Shalini. In fact, my husband Amod who is a doctor is often asked about me." And though she has long working hours, Aparna says she isn't complaining about it. "Once you make a commitment you have to stick to it. An actor may not always agree with the scenes, but one has to trust the creative team. Nothing succeeds like success," she says. Speaking about the increasing number of bold scenes on TV, Aparna says, "Why can't we have kissing scenes on small screen? People have been seeing kissing scenes in serials like the Bold and The Beautiful and Friends. If the scenes are shot well then maybe audiences will see them," she says.

I agree, i really dont think the Indian audience are ready for that but once serials will start showing such things, i guess the audience will either slowly get used to it like bollywood movies or will come up with huge protests....

yeah I watched Jeet but not on regular basis

about bold scenes on TV 4 Indian viewers are something that cannot be accepted at all at any moment...
if they try to show bold scences on TV then why watching TV shows along with family members and shows made 4 large audiences around the country and indian overseas...

broad mindedness is something that cannot be shared among all age group people and adults can watch their fav movies or shows whenever they want separately ....but Indian TV has got shows that are claimed to be watched by families together and they call it a "family drama" if they deny this factor then theres no difference in watching a mature hollywood movie on TV and watching any desi show...
since children and under aged teenagers not allowed/cannot watch anything separately ... there must be some restrictions and moral valued shows to be watched that not only contain a LOVE element but also various other facts in this world ...like FRIENDSHIP not necessarily b/w a girl and a boy,HARDWORK, SINCERITY, BROTHERHOOD, SISTERHOOD, LOYALTY, PARENT-CHILDREN relationships, ....these things can also be moulded into a pure entertainment masala with a pich of humour and all that a viewer want in a hit show apart from LOVE between/among boy and a girl...it'll definitely mislead younger generation 4 sure...

life is not just about love and marriage and having children,,, there can surely be comedy, humour without love and extra-marital affairs, there can also be drama, suspense, thriller, there can also be fun, entertainment, joy, thrill, excitement EVEN without gf-bf LOVE........ there are other plenty of beautiful aspects that are not even considered and thus named as a secondary valued factors 4 true entertainment to make money...huh so sad
