MATHUR - HALL
A drunken Indu waltzes into the Mathur house with the help of his friends. Tarachand is not impressed by this inebriated state of his. Nevertheless, Indu doesn't realize what he's doing and starts mouthing off rebukes to his father-in-law.
His uncivilized act ensues after his friends leave the premises too. A short while later, the vexed Tarachand can take it no more and finally retaliates by admonishing Indu in a loud voice. Tarachand's loud yells attract the attention of one and all in the houe - Sanchi included.
Lazily lounging on the couch with his feet up, Indu shows no respect for his uncle's pleas either
'I'm Indu Singh...' he goes on drunkenly 'I'm the son-in-law of this house...I am a living being in this house too... and I will live here as I wish!'
Eventually, Sanchi enters the hall and is shocked to find the state her husband was in.
While swinging clumsily in his spot, his attention is curtly drawn to his wife who pulls his hand to make him face her. Enraged, Sanchi cautions him that he had no right to speak to her father in that manner. She confesses that she'd been wallowing in guilt for her outburst so long. However, now on observing his behaviour her accusations that morning didn't seem really far off!
The intoxicated man argues back, his speech becoming increasingly slurred as he does so 'I'm speaking from my heart Sanchi...Everyone respects people...in every household, sons-in-law are respected... only here am I treated like footwear!'
Disgusted, Tarachand walks away from the scene, while Sanchi is left agape.
Sanchi sternly retorts that if Indu'd been offended by her words, he should have just approached her about it - not taken out his frustrations on her father. Having said so, the hurt girl storms away.
Once everyone had left, Veena walks up to Indu and expresses her heartfelt sentiments. Why had he fallen to such depths? Why hadn't he taken Sanchi's feelings into consideration? What about their future together? How did he justify this behaviour?
The anguished Indu replies that it was he who'd been wronged. The Mathurs never realized his worth and every wrong deed was blamed upon him. 'I'm a good son-in-law and even if you go out seeking someone as worthwhile as me, you wouldn't find any' he tells her tearfully 'There'll be a day when you all would accept the fact that Indu Singh is the best!'
Stumbling through the dining hall, he makes his way back towards his room.
THE CORRIDOR
Sadanand supports the clumsy Indu and even encourages his disrespectful behaviour, but the dazed young man does not fall for the villain's charms.
SANCHI'S ROOM
Sanchi is seated on her bed - weeping in agony. Indu staggers into the room and then plonks on the bed, startling the disheartened girl as he does so. She stands up and grimly orders Indu to get off her bed and take recourse in the couch. However, he argues back - asking her to get lost instead!
'You have no remorse for whatever you've done today' she scolds him 'If you can't change yourself, even I can't forgive you for all this...EVER!'
Sanchi's statements seem to send Indu into a monstrous cackle. Getting off the bed, he approaches her boisterously 'The sun never rises from the west...I'm a Gunda...as for changing myself - well, I tried a lot...and when I wanted to genuinely change, I gained insults from you and your father - nothing else...I opened that small shop only for your sake not caring for status or honour...but when the police raided that shop even you didn't trust me...' he thus goes on to insult her.
She ultimately loses her cool 'Stop this...better get your act straight or else...'
'Or else what?' he forces her to lower her finger and retorts 'I'm who I am...I will never change for anyone...recognize me for who I am...accept me for who I am and you'll be happy...all this 'good guy' image was only a facade!'
Sanchi's eyes well up 'So you'll never change... and you'll remain who you are'
'Yes' he clicks his tongue
'Fine, do as you please...hurt me how much ever you want...after all, that's what you've been doing so long'
TERRACE
Sanchi sits on the terrace and cries her heart out - recollecting all that Indu had spewed out to her not so long ago! Veena comes and tries comforting her daughter.
PANDEY HOUSE
There's a scene where Sobha/Roop try to appease the love-spurned Manwa, but he's in no mood to be pacified. When they then turn their backs to him, he takes a vow that he'd usurp all of their money and marry which ever girl he wanted to.
A comical fight ensues - both, physical and verbal!
The scene ends with Manwa pledging revenge!
VEENA'S ROOM
Veena acknowleges that Indu was at fault for everything but that Sanchi was not handling things any better either! The more Sanchi spurned him, the further he'd move away. The mother advices Sanchi that she'd have to resort to more considerate means to make her husband grasp reality!
Sanchi is shocked that her mother was counselling HER to be more subdued in the whole affair 'You didn't see how he was talking to me some time earlier...' she disputes 'You didn't see how he carried himself in university today...he's only bothered about his ego and takes wrong decisions because of it...how could I make him understand?'
Veena explains gently 'You think you're Indu's responsibility, right? Similarly, he's your responsibility too...a woman has far more patience than a man...'
Sanchi is not convinced 'When we both love each other and want to live together, then why should I be the one to sacrifice all the time...I am right now...and I wouldn't bow before him...'
SANCHI'S ROOM
She enters her room and finds Indu sleeping awkwardly on their bed. She wants to adjust the man's bedding and blanket but then decides against it. Why should she, when he hadn't even bothered about her or her parents' respect in the first place?
PRECAP
Sanchi receives a threatening call from Ranjith - the new young politician in campus. The man was basically warning her to stay away from his wayward ways in the hostel/campus. If she chose not to, he'd not shy from cutting her up into pieces.
The shocked Sanchi drops her phone down anxiously.
