Why does crime catch them young?

2 students from a Barakhamba school were caught smoking school officials think its cannabis but turns out to be tobacco.
16 yr old student hits a cyclist after racing at the speed of 200 kmph on his father's luxury sedan.
Two school students are taped on a camera-phone indulging. This video is seen by several people shocking everyone: educationists, parents, teachers and the media.
The rape and murder of a 72-year-old helpless woman by three youths, one of them just 16.

The teenage rebel is getting younger more likely to be in age group of 13 to 16 than in late teens. Explanations are plenty. The Psychiatrist views are that young teenagers are being increasingly exposed to the negative aspects that society, TV and internet beams to them. Therapist says children are 'growing-up' faster with more children expressing grown up questions at a younger age. Lastly school principal feels its about Parental neglect and control.

So where do you think the reason lies and how do we address it before the future shocks us all.

i DO to an extent agree with the psychologists

kids are being forced to in a sense grow up fast...i mean kids tehse days dun have a bachpan

i memba even i used to play games and everything when i was younger...but nowadays all i see litlle girls doing is dressin up in bits of fabric and slopping on ten tonnes of makeup

push-up bras for 3yr olds? well done mary-kate and ashley olsen! 👏 😕 🤢

Thus...when kids dont get to live out their bachpan in innocence and wat not...they're not gonna be the most level-headed people on this planet now are they?

and kids really dont know any better...they see their idols in Paris and Lindsay...and um hard-out partyin, drugs, spendthrifts.... 😆 "great role models!"

of course guys dun idolise Paris...but u know, i can realli speak from a girl's perspective 😉 😆

And yes, the parents shud control their kids...not nec. watch over them day and night...coz that wont work...need to instill VALUES...and u know, don't let them do stupid "grown up" things....let ur kids enjoy their bachpan

Crime doesn't catch the young. Young people are influenced to do crime by two majour factors. Sociolisation and peer pressure.

Firstly if the parents are criminals or have a past with the police and reguarly in trouble with the law aren't exactly setting a good example for the kid. The kid may just follow in their footsteps to make the parents proud or think its the right thing to do.

Peer pressure is a another factor. Many children nowadays are influenced by their peers to do things like this in order to fit into certain groups and feel equal to their peers. Also the fear of being called names causes the child to perform the crime.

Lavanya, very good topic. I don't think we can generlaize it. There are many research where one contradict other. First, I thought children look at their parents and family enviornment and background, then recently I read a research where they said family teaching matter, but most imporant is children pick up lot from peer. I have personally also seen how much peer affect my child compared to what I try to teach her.

I would say it is combination of parents who are careless, and also unnecessary exposure to television and internet. They should be exposed to shows and internet, but there should be parental control on it.

A statement by a therapist in your post-- I think kids always had curious and grown up questions, difference was they were so strictly governed, or maybe out of respect they did not "ask" such questions before (generation before us). now kids and parents have more friendly relation compared to generation back, and that's the reason now kids are found "asking" more grown-up questions.

Mythili, I know parents play very important role in upbringing, however, parent's are not always responsible for things. Sometimes Peer pressure play such important role in child's life that sometimes "not always" some kids coming from good family and good parents tend to go offtrack, even if parents tried hard to keep eye on them.
