Somehow when young we always felt that the younger sibling is treated better and loved more. .

BTW this makes me ponder can sibling rivalry drive to crime?

Dont scare me yaar...in any case the elder's exams finished today and she will stop feeling discriminated now!!😆

Dont be scared since Girls 😳 are sweet and made of all things nice so dont worry 😃

But seriously girls harm themselves more than others under peer pressure .

I agree that Parents shd not be blamed fully and Peer pressure plays a crucial role. BUt then who allowed the peers to become so influencing in a child's life? There is a phase when all children look upto their peers for social acceptance and bonding. Thats normal and happens with all children. But only some take to crime. Research shows that even in similar backgrd one child becomes a rebel and another does not. OF course if you believe in 'karma' then the easy way out is past birth. I have mentioned this becoz in INdia this is a convenient excuse.

I wld blame the parents more than the peers. Who are peers; themselves misguided kids. What made them get enticed in crime? But true the TV, internet, magazines are all blameworthy.

Lavanya, as I quoted some other member in this thread and agreed that people who have some criminal or offtrack background at home, tend to accept that much easily for sure. Like gangster's child would learn it from parent and go that route. However, for those who are decent and normal family sometime their kids also tend to take the other route. Yes, parents do come in the picture and are responsible for major portion, but not always and not all is to be blamed on parents. Kids at certain age, are attracted so much to peer and peer pressure that despite of parents warning they do tend to sneak out. What do you expect at that point from parents? I myself was a teenager and know how at that age one can rebeal and sneak out of parents eyes even if parents are after you 24/7.

I will have to scan and attach this article about how much peer impact on child and share it with you all. Now, I will not buy everything from that article 'coz it says ONLY peer affects child raising, which is extreme, I would say both play very important role. I started believing that article after I started observing some of the things my daughter gets attracted to in her life. She is just 4 so crime is at different level, however, some things that I never do at home or never expose her to family friends who would do that she picks it up from school friends with whom she tend to spend majority of her day. I think blaming all on parents is too tough.
I was going thro all the old topics and my focus was on less replies+ good topic and in this process I found this, infact I was trying to post similar topic but dropped my idea after seeing this topic So I thought I will irk people and then they will reply very fast,i was right.Even Cool Sowmyaa di also got irked by my first response in this topic.
Mythili, I was not irked 😳 😛 I just did not agree with you 'coz you said "I think Parents are responsible for this.parents need to have hawk eyes on their kids!!!!" . I think parents are also responsible many times, however not all the time and even if they have hawk eyes on their kids sometime kids are just strange. You won't believe, but I never knew this tiny little munchkins are very very sniky and can trick parents so easily until I had one 😆before I was like sure blame it on parents, but trust me parenting cannot be learnt from books or from other's advise. EAch kid is different (even siblings of same parents are so diff.) and with that each parent have their own challenge, so I won't say that parents are only one to be blamed 😛

I agree with your points Sowmyaa. No need to scan and post articles. I have read abt it. I know sometimes the child is completely enamored by Peer pressure.
Not blaming completely but majorly 😛 . But true as you pointed at there are times when the child is under complete influence of Peers.

The concept or rebalious Teen is an import from West.
I hate to start this next sentence but...
When I was a Teen couple of decades ago, there was no such thing as rebaleous teen. We did what our parents told us to do till we earned enough to support ourselves.
My kids wil not be teenagers for a while so I cannot comment what parents should be doing though...

I agree that the rebelion streak has fancied the teens but there are so many Guardins-Parents, School and society. Lack of good role models is significant. Todays celebrities are anything apart from being virtuous.
