Celebs react to fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani's comment (Mumbai Mirror, Sept 6) that plus-sized women can look good only in saris

First of all, I'm not a model, I'm a choreographer. I wear salwar kameezes, because I am most comfortable in them. I can't handle a sari and dance so why should I wear a sari? Designers should stick to designing for models, instead of telling us what to wear!

Everybody's welcome to his own views. Similarly, it's up to us to decide what we want to wear. Nobody decides that for us. And that's all I have to say on this issue. Having said that, I'd say any designer who caters to women must not have meant it in a derogatory sense.

I don't feel I'm plus-sized. I feel you should wear clothes that you feel comfortable in. I don't feel comfortable in saris, so I hardly wear them. At the same time I won't wear mini skirts or spaghetti straps off screen either. I prefer kurtis and jeans.

To some extent Tarun is bang on, because I believe there's nothing like a sari. It's my personal favourite. Since I am on the bigger side I don't wear trousers or tight tops. Personally I love saris as they look elegant no matter what size you are.

Did Tarun really say this? I'm stunned. Firstly, no one decides what someone else should wear. Hasn't Tarun been abroad? In the US, women are so much bigger than the average Indian woman. Should they all give up jeans? I wear jeans and capris because I am comfortable in them. However it's unfortunate that I don't find clothes of my size easily in India. Why should I feel embarrassed about my waist size?
