1920 - Evil Returns Has Good Saturday

Sunday 4t November 2012 09.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

1920 - Evil Returns had a good Saturday as collections held up well. The film did not show huge growth but that was expected as the first day was strong.

The central India markets were all similar to Friday while North India managed to grow a little. The Saturday number should come in a little higher than Friday which means the film will going towards a 12 crore nett weekend.

The first 1920 film released in 2008 which was a success had done less lifetime business than what 1920 - Evil Returns will do in the weekend. The earlier film had grossed around 10.50 crore nett in its entire run.

1920 - Evil Returns Has Solid Weekend

Monday 5th November 2012 10.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

1920 - Evil Returns had a solid weekend of 11.50 crore nett as per early estimates. The opening was good and though the film did not grow much on Saturday and Sunday as the opening was good to come out with a strong weekend. Also the genre does not tend to show much growth.

The film has put up good numbers all over apart from Mysore circuit. The collections in UP, Bihar, CP Berar and CI are excellent and better than quite a few bigger films. The business in Mumbai Delhi and Punjab is also pretty good especially as these areas are dominated by multiplexes

If the film sustains over the next few days it will emerge as the surprise hit of 2012.

Luv Shuv for '1920 - Evil Returns'!

By Taran Adarsh, November 7, 2012 - 08:05 IST
The soothsayers had predicted that no film would withstand the might of the invincible James Bond. SKYFALL, one of the most lucrative franchises, was expected to demolish all oppositions in that particular weekend [November 2 - 4, 2012] in India. No one would've ever dreamt that a low cost horror film, 1920 - EVIL RETURNS, would defy Bond and compete with it. But the unthinkable has happened...

SKYFALL, which opened wide on Thursday, grabbed the most screens across the country and put up [expectedly] healthy numbers in its opening weekend, but it was the super performance of 1920 - EVIL RETURNS that shook the industry. The trends were pretty evident on Friday morning itself: Vikram Bhatt's gamble of pitching 1920 - EVIL RETURNS against a mighty opponent had paid off. The exuberant start at the ticket window, defying the dominance of SKYFALL, said it all.

Does the excellent response to 1920 - EVIL RETURNS signify the return of the horror genre? As far as I remember, the Ramsays had cracked the formula way back in the 1970s and 1980s. They delivered a string of hits, with multiple distributors from each circuit heading to their office to acquire the rights of their fresh film/s. The Ramsays were the undisputed badshaahs of horror movies then. Ramgopal Varma did attempt a number of horror films lately. Some worked. Some didn't [BHOOT RETURNS, which opened a few weeks ago, sank without a trace]. But Vikram Bhatt seems to be getting it right most of the times. RAAZ 3 and 1920 - EVIL RETURNS, two super successes in the same genre, in one year, is something to be proud of. Like I tweeted on Saturday morning, the title of 1920 - EVIL RETURNS should be changed to 'Vikram Bhatt Returns'. With a bang!

Notwithstanding the glitches in its screenplay, 1920 - EVIL RETURNS has been embraced warmly by the audience across the nation. One has to bow down to the verdict of the junta and the fantastic business of the film clearly indicates that the paying public has given its mandate.

LUV SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA too surprised the industry when it opened on Friday. In this case, it was the shockingly low start that caught the industry's attention. The response was thanda even in North Indian circuits, where the film was expected to open well. Like last week's CHAKRAVYUH, LUV SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA garnered glowing reviews from critics who matter. The word of mouth was super-strong too. But the film never took off. How does one explain that?

LUV SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA did grow on Saturday and Sunday, but the jump in its business was clearly missing. It held very well in North Indian circuits, but tottered elsewhere. The genuinely delicious dish may have found limited admirers in India, but it's imperative that films like LUV SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA get made. It's vital for the taste buds of the audience. They need to get a taste of scrumptious stuff served freshly by first-time directors from Bollywood's kitchen.

1920 – Evil Returns 1st Tuesday Box Office Collections

November 7th, 2012 by MKS

Tia Bajpai in a still from 1920 – Evil Returns Movie

After making a 2.00 Crores business on its 1st Monday at the domestic box office, 1920 – Evil Returns saw a small drop of about 10% on Tuesday. Collecting 1.75 Crores on Tuesday, the movie now stands at 15.75 Crores at the domestic box office.

It seems, the movie will surely touch 18 Crores nett in its 1st week. However, next week's big releases Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son of Sardaar are sure to capture the box office. 1920 Evil Returns, thus, has about 1 week to make all the money it can.

Needless to say 1920 Evil Returns has proven to be one of the biggest surprises at the box office especially due to its production and marketing budget. The venture is sure to be a profitable one for both makers and distributors.

1920 – Evil Returns 1st Wednesday Box Office Collections

November 8th, 2012 by MKS

1920 – Evil Returns has been staying stable at the Box Office, though at lower levels. As per early estimates, the movie made another 1.45 Crores business at the domestic box office on Wednesday. 1920 Evil Returns now stands at a domestic box office collection of 17.2 Crores.

Tia Bajpai in a still from 1920 – Evil Returns Movie

The movie will not be able to do much business further, since biggies like Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar are releasing next week. However, the collections so far are excellent for a movie made out of a limited budget and with almost negligible publicity.

1920 – Evil Returns will finish its 1st week at 18 Crores plus and its lifetime collections should be in the range of 24 Crores approx.
