Chapter 3
She barged into the room and Arnav did not glance at her at all.
"You know how I am feeling and still you went with her for lunch?" she growled in a low voice.
"I did Khushi. You know how I feel about it, and youre still asking?" he questioned her back.
"Fine I believe you. But what about her Arnav? What about Sheetal?
"What about her?"
"Didnt you ever think whether she liked you or not?"
"I told you it was a mutual ending"
"Right. No I dont think it was mutual Arnav. I think she said that just to avoid your ASR personality" she snapped.
"I know Sheetal Khushi. She didnt."
"I wish it were true but I know its not. I am a woman Arnav, I can tell when a girl likes a man"
"That is not my problem Khushi! It was over years ago. If she didnt get over it, what do you want me to do?!"
"I dont know!"
"Your behavior is pissing the crap out of me. You need to stop. Now."
"I understand you explained to me it was your history Arnav. With time I would have let it go but its coming back to our present...it can affect our future" her tone grew loud.
"You asked for it Khushi. You had Sheetal stay over. Why?"
"How could I not? Did you see Aarav? He is you! A smaller you!" she was yelling by now.
"That is just a coincident. Strangers can be similar"
"Yeah not till the extreme. What the, anger, expressions, butter toast and orange juice for breakfast, everything, just everything is so alike...exactly the same!" Khushi rubbed her face in frustration.
"We have been over this as well Khushi. You need to trust me" he spoke in a dangerous tone.
"I cant. I cant Arnav. I wont be able to accept or tolerate any other woman..."
Sighing he got up from his recliner and went to her.
Cupping her face, he looked into her eyes, "No there is no other woman. Its you...only you."
"I-I...She had kept a vrath Arnav. And she hid it from all of us. And she called out your..." she stopped speaking.
She had not thought of telling that to Arnav...yet.
"She called my what Khushi?" he asked, cupping her face more.
"N-nothi-"
"Tell me Khushi"
"She called out your name, Im pretty sure it was you whom she looked at through her dupatta before breaking her vrath"
"What on earth are you talking about?"
"She is right Arnav" Sheetal spoke from behind them.
She stood at the door, her arms folded across her chest.
Arnav left Khushi, his arms dropping to his sides. Khushi turned around to face her.
"Sheetal what are you doing here? My wife and I are talking...-"
"Yeah I know. Door is open Arnav" she waved her hand at the door.
She walked into the room and stood few feet away from the couple.
"I had kept a vrath yesterday and the years before that, for you, Arnav"
"What the hell. Why?"
Khushi stood there staring at the woman.
"I had fallen in love. That day when you ended our relationship, I was going to confess Arnav but I couldnt because you finished it off. I tried, a lot, but couldnt stop loving you, even till now"
"I-I am...Sheetal I thought you knew me. You know how I was, how could you?"
"I just did"
"Does this have anything to do with you coming back?"
"Yes and no"
"What do you mean? You better explain yourself" he snapped harshly.
"No, I didnt want to come back but then..."
"But then what?" Khushi whispered, her instinct telling her it is not something good.
"But then Aarav really wanted to see his dad" she whispered back.
Khushi's biggest fear came true. She stared at the woman in front of her...mother of her husband's child. She had thought her world had crashed when she saw her breaking her fast by Arnav's name...she was wrong. Her entire being slipped from her fingers.
"What the hell are you saying?" Arnav clenched his jaw tightly and spoke through gritted teeth.
"Aarav is your son Arnav. He is our son"
"Shut the hell up Sheetal" Arnav yelled.
"Its the truth. I-I found out I was pregnant after you left college" her eyes moistened.
"He is not my kid. Aarav is not my child"
"He is Arnav"
"You..!" Arnavs eyes widened in anger. He looked like a man possessed.
"No! Dont you dare yell at me Arnav. You ditched me, left me like that and now here you are happily married. So much for not believing in love Arnav..."
Khushi fell back on the bed. She held on to the sheets tightly, gripping them as of her life dependent on it.
"Aarav is your son. Aarav is your son" Khushi kept repeating under her breath.
None of them noticed the family that had gathered around in the room now.
They all had horror stricken faces.
Arnav came foward and roughly grabbed Sheetals arm, "he cannot be my son"
"He is your son. I made sure he grows up just like you, like his dad, like his mother's love" tears ran down her cheeks.
Arnav pushed her back and turned to Khushi.
"Leave the room Khushi, and everyone else too. I need to talk to Sheetal alone"
"No I wont" Khushi said in a strong voice.
"I said leave"
"I am not going anywhere. I need to hear it as well"
"No you dont. Akash get her and the rest of them out of here" yelled Arnav loudly.
Akash stepped forward and grasped Khushis arm gently yet firmly and dragged her out of the room.
Payal rushed over to her sister but was pushed away.
"I-I need to go home. To my home. To buajis" she muttered.
Crying, Payal hugged her and said, "I will take you. Lets go"
Not listening to nani or Anjali, the sisters left the house.
