TM, the answer for your question, 'Is Anandi some object?'. 'Yes. For J, A is an object'
For J, Anandi is a magical object with out any feelings! 'It'can do wonders. 'It' can do anything on J's behalf for his happiness and for his needs. This object should remain at his arms lenth, on call, for J's order/request/tears/smiles. A is only a means for J. An easy way to fulfill his wishes.
Back in childhood, DS taught J to treat A as an object. DS took away A's childhood and drilled in J's head that A is only his extension. The whole purpose of little Anandi's life was to serve little J. This fool J when he got to see the outside world, saw only the glitter. He didn't see the injustice A suffered under DS. Why to talk about outside world. He didn't learn anything from his father or from his BIL(Shyam).
For J, A is only an object. Thats why J could leave her so easily. Even the way he told her that he no longer loves her was way too insensitive. Everything he did or didn't do for Anandi was the same he would have done if 'it' was an important object. He saved 'it' from fire, from kidnappers. But he also called 'it' names, restricted it's movement, dishonoured its previous owners feelings(Khajan and Bhago), did not communicate with 'it', accused inhuman things on 'it'(accused of casting evil eye on his unborn child), demanded favors(money, help), expected 'it' to be his mouthpiece to deal with his family, etc, etc.
I want Anandi to realize how bad she had been utilized.
