She wanted to play the ideal bahu
So when her character turned negative, Sayantani Ghosh quit Kumkum Ranjib Mazumder
Sayantani Ghosh, aka Antara of Kumkum was unhappy about portraying a negative role in the serial. When contacted she says, "When I signed the serial, I was told that I would be playing the ideal bahu. But the story underwent a sea change and my character eventually turned grey. I was not comfortable playing a negative character. It does not come naturally to me. When I asked the production people, I was told that in every serial, there are changes in the tracks to keep the audiences interested. Since I couldn't relate to the character, I decided to leave," says Sayantani.
The buzz goes that Sayantani was asked to leave. Says Sayantani, "That's not true. It was an amicable decision." But if the grapevine is to be believed, there was tension between Kumkum aka Juhi Parmar and Sayantani, which compelled the latter to quit. "Not at all. I never had any problem with Juhi or anyone on the sets. Juhi is an extremely helpful person and a pleasure to work with. The whole unit including Juhi was there to celebrate my birthday. Now, I have left the show for good. I am busy with my Bengali films in Kolkata and have not signed any new serial as yet," she adds.
When contacted, Juhi said, "I don't know who spread these rumours. She was a newcomer, anyway. Why would I have a problem with a newcomer?"
Sonia Singh, who has replaced Sayantani in Kumkum is happy to bag the role of Antara.
"I do not know who has done the role earlier. But, the character is interesting and challenging too. It is different from the usual negative characters on the small screen. I have joined the serial only recently," says Sonia.
