And the lady is called Choti 'Ma'

I looked at her quizzically. She was clasping and unclasping her hand as if trying to control her inner turmoil. Chotima has her reservations about Anandi.Understood. She also distastes Anandi. Could not understand why.

She has a peculiar way of dealing with the Singhs. Even if her rigidity towards Anandi is understandable, she extends it to the entire family. She does not set a boundary and is really pathetic when she chooses to speak her mind.

The way she behaved with Dadisa was utter nonsense. Whatever Dadisa said it was about Shiv. It was, Shiv who would have taken utmost offence. He had a reason, and it would not have seemed out of place.

Next is Irawati. Being the mother, she would have felt really bad that her son is being regarded in this way by some people, if not all. May be she would have reprimanded Shiv about his behavior and would have asked him to be more careful in future.

Too much of anything is bad. Choti Ma thrives on this syndrome of "too much". She loves her Shiv so much that I find if she ever found any time for her own son Mahi. I find it equally strange that she never ever muses about Mahi at all.

Choti ma's obsessive concern is out of place.. it looks to me,she always had an obsessive nature. When she spoke about Anandi and her past ,she went on harping about it so much that it ultimately lost all its significance. So she is now after the old lady.

Let us assume, she comes to know that it was Dadisa . What is she going to do? Slap her? Drag her to panchayat and ask Anandi to do justice? Raise a hue and cry about it? Even if she chooses any of these, will any one allow her to do this?

Yes,it can be a curiosity to know who did it and why. That is understandable. The family also takes an offence. But to drag it to such a length is to make it a case of mountain out of a molehill.

The other day Alok tried to reason with Ira. Agreed that she lost her husband at a young age. But, being a widow does not make you bitter or insecure about yourself especially when you have such a loving family. Her insecurity engulfs all who come in contact with her. As she is not happy herself, she believes no girl who has lost her husband can be happy.

Surreptitiously she tried to force Shiv to rethink and tried to corrupt Ira's mind.

We thought a day will come when some one from the Shekhar's family will pull her up. But,I think, the day has already arrived. She has spoken to Anandi with a pun intended and she spoke to Dadisa. What is any one waiting for? Already people have been humiliated.

What Jagya did or did not do, is the sole concern of the Singh family. It is also strange to see her so worried about Jagya's presence in Jaitser. She does not know Jagya and hardly knows Anandi. Despite Anandi being Shiv's betrothed,Choti ma never really bothered to know her. If you do not make an attempt to know people, how can you just draw a conclusion?

We believe, any one who is educated and comes from a good family background has some sense of do's and don't's in public. She came as some one exactly opposite. Though her words were always wrapped with a constrained smile, it did not fool any one. Being a in a village and not exposed so much to lifestyle of city bred people, Dadisa comes across as far more cultured and educated than any one in Shekhar's family. Keeping quiet in the face of such remarks, does not speak highly of Shiv's family.

On that day,I really felt sorry for Bhairon. The father has gone through a lot of pain and sorrows which he cleverly hid from every one. God forbid,if ever Shiv faults even a miniscule way what Jagya did,can Choti Ma be like Bhairon?

And I fail to understand why so much of importance is being given to her ?

It is time Daddu says something about it, if required, she should be clearly asked to be within her limits. From the old lady she has gone to the poor caretaker and rudely behaved about things not being in place.

Shiv is not worried. Who gives the authority to some one else to pull up the caretaker?

He is there to take care of the collector and if he fails let the collector take him to task. Irawati got irritated because of this. Choti ma clearly wants to control every thing and every one around her.

She also says that she is worried about Shiv. It was Shiv who had assured her that everything is fine between him and Anandi. And whatever is not fine,he will set it right.

Let Shiv address his own concern. He chose his bride. He must be having the sagacity to

decide what is good or bad for him.

Choti Ma can take a cue and withdraw herself.

Sukanya agree with you. Shekhars should have stopped her right there. I cant understand why they don't?
I wonder if daddu has same control over his family as DS has over hers.
Remember how CM told daddu not to take another glass of milkshake. Yes she was showing concern but it also showed that she controls the family including Shiv and his upcomming marriage.
Lovely post.

Agree with you.Initially her concerns about Annadi seemed to be valid.

But was it her concern for Shiv or her prejudice speaking when she said she wanted nayee naveli dulhan?

If it was her concern she should have tried to get to know the girl he is so intent on marrying and tried to convey to A that her son's happiness is the most important thing for her just like Sumi did when she had that call from Shiv.

Even when she accused Anandi of pretending ignorance abt J's visit she came across someone who is not only prejudiced but stupid also.
If Anandi knew about J in the first place will she be in such jovial mood?If she is in jovial mood she either did not care for J's condition or she did not know about J at all.
But anyway I am glad that A took a positive lesson from it and went to Shiv straight with her concerns regarding J.

If she cares for her son so much does she realise what will happen to him if A took her advice and went back to J? I don't think she thought of Shiv at all.

She just want to persist with her prejudices and keep her mind closed.

I really hope S stands upto her and tells her off firmly rather than try and convince her.
Her family is just too blind to her prejudices and narrow mindedness.

But personally I don't care to convince people like her. They can very well live in their dungeons with their closed mind mind for company.

Choti Ma's choice for Shiv was Ashima. She was slighted when she realized that Ashima was never in Shiv's radar as life mate. In the past Shiv has willingly listened to her with respect to his life choices. For example, that little tidbit that Shiv gave up a career in the military on Choti Ma's request. So this time when Shiv makes a life choice based on his likes it irks Choti Ma and she is going to do all within her power to see that Shiv reverses his decision.
It is a question of control and power for CM.

Agree Sukanya. I don't think CM will withdraw so soon. From the way the family has reacted it seems like a new behavior with CM that no one has seen. Can't understand her obsessive behavior although initially I thought she is over protective of Shiv. It seems like that over-protectiveness is just an excuse to hate Anandi.

Agree.. her obsession with Shiv and anything and everything related to him borders insanity.. I have not once seen her think about her own son Mahi after he left.. also when Mahi was around even then her bond with him looked so "pheeka" after the old lady problem will be sorted she'll find a new way to torture her family and us..

It is obvious that she is over-possessive about Shiv, running around to make sure his clothes and all were ready before leaving. I think that when her husband passed away, she devoted all her time and love to Shiv so she cannot stop doing things for him. Its going to be a big problem because it will be Anandi's responsibility after marriage, and CM is going to have nothing else to do so she will resent Anandi.

The CVs want to show CM as society, since everyone else in the family has accepted Anandi. But they are showing that she has some personal agenda. Society would think of their standing by marrying Shiv to a divorcee, but in this case CM's agenda seems purely personal bias. She is very passive aggressive - since the family doesn't pay heed to her, she takes it out on Anandi and her family. Shiv's telling her off will not help, CM has so far shown no inclination to open her mind about Anandi.

It is useless to waste time on someone who will never change her mind because her bias is so personal. Nothing anyone says or does will change CM's mind. The best way to deal with it is for Shiv to continue to support Anandi and ignore CM. So far CM does not even see Shiv as an adult who can make his own decisions. She baby-sits him too much. That is why I don't like the family's staying with Anandi. I want Anandi to have her own house with Shiv, the family is welcome to visit. But living together is going to cause major problems with CM poking her nose in everything Shiv and Anandi. CM is playing the perfect role of a MIL!
