The reason Agni, Vayu, Ganga, Shravana forest were involved in Skanda's birth was to portray how the five elements of Nature come together during Creation.

It is said in the Rig Veda:

Akashat Vayuhu, Vayur Agnihi, Agnir Apaha, Adyah Pruthivi, Pruthivya Oshadhayaha, Oshadhayo Annam, Annaath Purushaha.

From Space, emerged the WInd , from Wind appeared Agni, from Agni came water, from water came the Earth, from the Earth emerged plants and vegetation and from this, grew foodgrains.

So this was the sequence which Mahadev followed during Skanda's birth- because this birth was supposed to be an example of a perfect creation.

First the Prakriti Tattva (Parvati) embedded itself in the Purusha (Shiva). From the Third Eye in each of Shiva's five foreheads heads (because the Third Eye represents the Ajna Chakra- the seat of intuition and intellect) emerged five sparks. A sixth emerged from the top of Shiva's head bearing the Pranava Mantra.

The sparks were formed / suspended in Space (Akasha)

They were given to Agni and Vayu (Fire and water elements, the second and third stage of creation)

Agni and Vayu transfered them to Ganga ( Apaha - Water element)

Ganga takes it to the Shravana Forest (Earth element)

Kartikeya is formed on six lotuses (Vegetation element)

This is the story of Creation which is depicted through Murugan's birth.

No jittery Indra, no nervous Agni, no security plans, no MI5, James Bond or whatever ...
