All the soaps are churning out the same stuff. Nobody has anything new to offer & what should one say about all the silly twists and turns!🤢😡 So I thought of giving you guys list of books which I have enjoyed reading. Some of them you all would have read. You can keep adding your fav book to the list. The reading of all good books is like a conversation with the finest men of past centuries. So here is my list......
–'Notes from a Small Island' (Britain) & 'Neither Here Nor There' (Europe) Laugh out loud! Funny and realistic.
Louis de BERNIERE – 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin', A love story against
the backdrop of Greece during the Second World War. Great characterization and an intriguing plot.
– 'Persuasion', It has all the Austen elements – well written, well constructed, wry, romantic, knowledgeable.
Pat BARKER – 'Union Street', A tough and gritty example of women's determination.
Julian BARNES - 'England, England', A funny, imaginative story with complex motives.
–'House of the Spirits', The contrast of gritty reality and the supernatural over four generations in Latin America make this a book you just can't put down.
–'Crime and Punishment', A book as rich as this is impossible to sum up in a few words. Shows a profound understanding of the workings of the psyche: its potential for evil and forgiveness. All of human life seems to be here. Not a light read, but you will come away richer and more aware of what you are and what you can be.
It is a superb thriller. It depicts its setting – 19th century St. Petersburg – more vividly than Karamazov. Both, admittedly, are full of seedy, twisted people, but people whose motives are so profoundly analyzed you can never dismiss them.
– 'Rebecca', Romantic, mysterious, thrilling, brilliant. Try also 'Frenchman's Creek' – a good follow up.
–'The Magus', A compelling mystery with intrigue and exciting twists.
– 'North and South', About real life with a romantic element.
Gnter GRASS - 'The Tin Drum', A twisted and grotesque look at Germany from 1925 to 1955, seen through the eyes of a dwarf child who refuses to grow up. At turns hilarious, erotic, tragic and stomach turning; a perfect expression of the madness which overtook Germany in the mid 20th Century.
'The End of the Affair'. A compelling romantic story line with an unusual plot which offers excellent insight into wartime England. A good smattering of religious interest too!
Enjoy reading these books & don't forget to share your list of fav. books.
Cheers,
Mink
