So that I can have fun reading the backlash here after the episode airs.

I have high expectations. Very high expectations! In fact, I think they'll be so good that after they're done, Mahadev will in swarga summon the authors of the Shiva Purana, Skanda Purana and Kanda Purana and upbraid them for having left out such interesting details in their accounts. He'd also curse them to come here to Kalyug and participate amongst us in CNAT. Along w/ Arihan 😈

I can also imagine Tarakasura going to him and asking him to grant an immortal place next to him to the production team members of Triangular Pictures

The PH has already done the best thing by casting Rushiraj as Karthikeya. Half battle is won and his on screen histrionics are good if people have seen him as the young lad in CGM. Feeling is great. Hoping for the best now.

Assuming that we will get to see Takki's end sometime within the next decade, how far should we raise our expectations for the final battle? In the puranas Taraka is a formidable warrior, an extremely powerful asura. He defeated the devas and lokapalas and many ganas. He had his own 'Shakti' weapon (in the form of a spear). He knocked out both Veerabhadra and Vishnu! Taraka was attacked by the Sudarshan Chakra but even this did not stop him.

The fight with Skanda wasn't that straight-forward either. Both used their Shakti weapons and at first Takki managed to land a severe blow on Skanda; so much so that Shiva's son was rendered unconscious for a while. He got back up and hit Taraka but the asura got back up again. Finally Skanda remembered his parents, offered obeisance to them and hit Taraka with one final fatal blow.

So far DkDM has usually failed to live up to their grand promos and audience expectations when it comes to these big moments. What do you think? What should we expect?

Note: I suspect we won't see Takki fighting Vishnu or at least we won't see it the way I described above for obvious reasons. Also in the texts Shiva instructed Veerabhadra not to kill Taraka because the boon was about Skanda killing him. I think Veerabhadra won't be brought back on the show.

Kal

More seriously, I looked @ the description of the fight in Shiva Purana. The account I saw seems abridged - nothing there about Tarakasura defeating Vishnu & all that. That part actually looks strange, b'cos one would have thought that in his journey to power, he would have trounced Vishnu during that time, not when he was making his final stand.

The other account - just as brief - was in the ACK Shiva & Parvati, where his battle is just a footnote in the last page. No details. The other ACK Kartikeya goes by the Southern version, where he kills Taraka easily, and goes on to fight Simhamukha & Surapadman, so that would be irrelevant here.

What does Skanda Purana say about his battle?

Yes it is correct. Parvati creates the 'Vel' (a kind of spear) and transfers her shakti into it. She hands it over to Shiva and Kartikeya after prostratating to his father receives it from him. This is the also the time Kartikeya is appointed as Deva-Senathipati and Veerabahu as second-in- command.

Is there any further story of Kartikeya, like what he did after killing Tarakasur. Besides the Earth pradakshina story involving Ganesh.

No... not the shoolam. It's the Vel. Shoolam is the trident- that Shiva has in his hand.

Which one are you asking now - the one where he just kills Tarakasura, or the one where he also turns Simhamukha & Surapadman into the vahanas of Mahakali and himself? (Honestly, I thought that Simhamukha deserved to be turned into a peacock more than Surapadman)

Kartikeya - well he fought Ganesh during the battle where Mahadev sent just about everyone against him 😆 After that would have been the pradakshina story. But I'd really prefer it if after killing Taki, they show Kartikeya marrying Devasena.

Only other story of Kartikeya I can remember - when Banasura took Mahadev's protection, he took Kartikeya's protection as well. When Krishna invaded Banasura's kingdom to rescue Anirudha, he fought Mahadev while Pradhyumna fought Kartikeya. Due to Mahadev's curse on Banasura that the latter would be defeated by one who's equal to himself, Krishna & Pradhyumna had the upper hand in that battle.

Other than that, I do hope they pull out stories of Kartikeya from the Skanda & Kanda Puranas and show them (except where they directly contradict each other).

There are plenty.

Stories about his marriage to Devasena ...Of how he wooed Valli and made her his wife... Of how he explained the meaning of the Pranava mantra (OM) to his father...(This one took place before the killing of Tarakasuran)...Story of the Sri Sailam Jyoturling...
