VirMan – Their Journey Against Cancer [Part 7]
She was gone. And so was his soul. He felt empty within. He wanted to do something, anything to get her back, but he knew there was no way. He felt restless because he needed her. Without her, he was like a fish out of the water. Yet he was calm, because he knew there was no way she would come back. If she had to, she would have never left in the first place.
'Hum dono baney hain bas, ek dusre ke liye. Phir kyun tuney mujhe yahaan phaasle hain diye? Hum hain humsafar, na mujhe chhod kar jaana. Maine toh har ghadi bas tujhe zindagi maana.'
She missed her best friend. She missed the man who loved her more than anything else in the world. The man who whould do anything, be anything for her. Her Viraat. She had been his from the moment they had first met. So why hadn't he claimed his right on her? Why hadn't he stopped her? He was usually so stubborn and selfish. So why did he behave so selfless now?
'Agar main jaane ki zid kar rahi thi, toh tum mujhey rokne ko zid nahi kar sakte the? Maine ek baar daantke tumhe jaane ko keh diya, aur tum chup chap chale gae? Ek baar bhi apna haq nahi jataaya?'
There was no way he could move on. When his heart was missing, how could he continue an existence? He lived in her memory, reliving all the times he had spent with her. He missed her presence, he missed her smile, he missed himself. How could he have asked her to stay back? She wasn't his girl. Not officially, atleast. With what right could he claim her as his?
'Kis haq se tumhe rokta Maanvi? Meri galti ke baad mujhe khud shamajh mein nahi aa raha tha ki main tumse kya kahun? Roku ya jaane dun? I miss you Maanvi.'
She wasn't a movie heroine. No, she wouldn't pretend to be strong and aloof even though she was crying inside. She let her tears flow. Tears of sadness; tears of guilt for hurting the one person who would laid down his life for her, tears of betrayal; for having lied to her partner about her true feelings; tears of worry, tears of the love she had kept chained inside. She needed to make sure he was alright. So she messaged him. From her sister's phone.
He told his 'bhabhi' frankly, that he was not okay. How could he possibly be ok? He asked if Maanvi was alright. When she told him she was, his heart felt a little relieved. Away from him, at least she was happy. But when she told him to forget Maanvi, that was asking too much from him. Forgetting her? Existing without her? Not possible. He called his bhabhi to clarify this small point.
She never picked that call. But she kept waiting all night for his call. She wanted to talk to him, somehow. Weren't they relatives first? Best friends too? Couldn't he call his bhabhi's sister? Couldn't he call his bhai's saali? Couldn't he call his partner? She wanted the lover in him to stay away from her, not the best friend in him.
'Maine uss Viraat ko dur rehne ko kahaa tha jo mujhse pyaar karta hai. Uss Viraat ko nahi, jo mera best friend hai. Please call karo na Viraat.'
He was dying to talk to her, but he couldn't. He knew if he talked to her, he would invariably end up talking about his feelings. And then again she would turn away from him. He held his phone in hand, number on his speed dial. Just a push on the call button would do the trick. But he didn't. Calling her would make him happy, but it would cause the rift between them to become wider. So he decided against it.
'Kaise call karun Maanvi? Baat karne se andar ki felings toh bahaar aa hi jaengi. Aur phir panga. Goodnight.'
Their siblings couldn't see them in pain. Jeevika ended up cryptically confessing the reason for Maanvi's sadness to her husband. And well, it's a good thing Viren has a lawyer mind. He figured out the real reason in a jiffy. And he also found an innovative way to tell his baby brother about it without breaking his promise to his wife.
'Maanvi mujhse pyaar karti hai? MAANVI MUJHSE PYAAR KARTI HAI? *jumping around*
The fiery Viraat left for Hrishikesh to hear Maanvi's confession. There, she missed the parts of her that were missing. Her long, striaght hair. Her Viraat. She imagined them both of them in front of her and confessed her feelings.
'Partner, ek baat bilun waise. Tumhaari bohot yaad aati hai.'
'Mujhe bhi.'
She realized he wasn't a figment of her imagination. He was really here. Her Viraat was actually here. NOW WHAT?
'Main tumse door jaane ke liye Chandigarh se waapas aai thi.'
'Aur main tumhaare paas aane ke liye yahaa chalaa aya. Simple.'
