Silence
She faced the mirror on the dressing table and sat on the chair in front of it. She picked up a hair brush and aimlessly moved it along the length of her hair, smiling at her own reflection. She looked pretty, even without any make up. "The most beautiful woman ever" her dearest hubby would have said if he were there right now, as he always kept saying it to her.
And as it always did, that blush came up to her cheek again, unknowingly and most of all, without any warning. Now that blush like most teenagers would have experienced, put her into awkward situations at times. Like for example, she would be walking on the street and her wavering mind would think about HIM. And there she would start blushing non-stop, dragging unwanted attention plus weird looks from the people around, as if she belonged to some other planet.
"Haven't these fools ever experienced love that they are staring at me like that?" she would think, as if consoling herself that she wasn't really an alien. But hey, she was 33 now, so she was supposed to keep a check over her emotions'but it was him'
As the smile deepened at her thoughts, she looked at her reflection again. She really did look weird with that huge smile, showing of her sparkling white teeth. "maybe I can advertise for a toothpaste brand" her thoughts just made her realize that whenever he wasn't around, it would directly affect her mind which would then process some random things and make her think utter non-sense. Then she started making funny weird faces.
She scorned at her reflection and pouted, as if mentally telling herself to behave. But the cute little pout had already done its magic. He had come out of the shower, drying his hair when he saw her blushing like that. Her smile was so infectious that his lips immediately turned into an upward curve. And knowing the fact that it was only for him made him grin.
He had been observing her since the past few minutes, and her expressions when she frowned, bit the nail of her little finger, the way she showed her own reflection a tongue, melted him. And as if that itself was not enough, she had to pout the very next second, didn't she? Unable to resist her anymore, he quickly moved towards her and wrapped his arms around her from behind, rubbing his cheek with hers at the same time. She smiled at held his hands.
"Good morning, honey" he said in a super seductive voice and she continued blushing.
He looked at the mirror to see her expressions and she blinked, wishing him a good morning.
"tum bahut pretty lag rahi ho'as always" he spoke, not breaking the eye contact through their reflections.
It was then that her eyes fell on him. His hair was still wet, and water dripped from it continuously. In short, he looked way to hot and desirable at that moment. A droplet fell from his hair and made its way on her shoulder which made her shudder and she tightened her grip on his hands. As if realizing what happened, he snuggled into her neck and planted a wet kiss there. She immediately arched her head back and her hand held his hair. The phone's ringing outside brought them back to reality. She pushed him away and ran out of the room. He came behind her and she picked up the receiver and gave him the receiver, looking at him with a "Silly me" expression. He shook his head with a little seriousness and took the phone and spoke while his other hand cupped her face.
A few moments later
"hospital se phone tha..mere pehle ki shift pe jo cardiologist kaam karte hain woh aaj jaldi chale gaye hain"
She nodded and as he moved around the house, picking up a piece of bread from the table and gulping down his juice, she gave him his keys, his wallet, his bag, his stethoscope, etc. and walked upto the door. That was their daily ritual.
"vaise aaj mujhe meri good morning kiss nahi mili" he turned around abruptly and since she was right behind him their lips brushed for a flash of a second.
"Hmm mil gayi" he said, giggling and she hit him on his arm. But being the charmer that he was, he quickly gave her a peck on her cheeks and ran away'while she stood at the door, waving her hand till his car was out of sight.
She sat on the sofa and took out a bag from underneath it. Then she removed the bag and all their pictures fell on her lap. Yes, she had been making a collage for him. She sorted through the pictures and held the wedding picture in her hands and kissed his face lightly.
And her mind went back to thinking about their past.
She ran alongside the stretcher in the hospital corridors, gripping her mother's hand. Her mother had complained of a minor chest pain but that had sent her into a super-hyper mode and now here they were, despite her mother's protests. They were soon joined by the doctor. Not noticing him, she reluctantly let go of her mother for the check up. An hour of panicking and a few reports and tests later, he came out and told her everything was fine, it was just a minor pain and nothing else. She nodded and ran to meet her mother and threw her arms around her and sobbed. Her mother consoled her. By then he had come inside. She was still sobbing and was now even hiccupping in between her sobs. He quickly handed her the glass of water that lay nearby.
As she took it from him, her hand brushed against his, sending a shock wave down his body. He just stared at her. She was indeed beautiful and since she'd been crying, her nose had turn a shade of red, and he had to admit, she looked so cute that he smiled for a second.
She then turned to him after she calmed down and walked up to him. She took his hand and pressed it lightly, and thanked him with her eyes. He blinked back and said"it's alright."
It was past midnight and was readying the papers for her mother's discharge. He saw her sitting outside all alone so he invited her to his cabin. She entered shyly and sat on the chair facing him, a little uneasily. He picked up the phone and ordered two cups of coffee. Then he began writing something on a piece of paper. All this while, she was getting extremely fidgety, hoping not to make him feel awkward. But she was surprised when he passed over the paper back to her.
"You mind, conversing like this?"
It read'.
She read it and a smile formed on her lips. He had been so considerate. Hell, it surprised her that he even realized. Generally people would awkwardly walk away from her but he was the first person who had been sensitive enough and done this. She looked up to him from the paper and smiled, with her eyes a little damp.
"Of course not, thanks, by the way"
She wrote back.
"Well anything for a pretty girl like you"
"Hmmm trying to flirt?"
She wrote it but bit her tongue and was about to cancel it when he stopped her and took the paper from her. He read it and let out a little chuckle. Just then the coffee arrived.
"Well, I hope you know that a lot can happen over coffee" he wrote back.
"You aren't trying to make fun of me, are you?"
"Why would I do something like that? Do I look like a ruthless monster to you?"
"Haha...No'you seem nice"
"Only nice? That's all you have to say? I mean ladkiya marti hain mujhpe and tum ho ki'.shaeee"
"Are you always this cheeky?"
"Well, no, I am my true self only with people I trust"
As she took the paper, she held it high upto her nose to read it. Purposefully, she stole a glance at him. He was right, he really was handsome'his hair was long and silky, his eyes, a unique color and his smile was really charming. She allowed herself to glance further and they fell on his broad shoulders, accentuated by the lab coat he was wearing. As if suddenly coming out of her trance, she looked back at him, hoping she hadn't been too obvious. But instead she found him smiling at her dreamily'
"Too soon to trust people"
She wrote and pushed it back to him. He laughed and his laughter echoed in her ears.
"You know what, I think we can be friends'you aren't like the usual girls'"
"Sure...So why don't you tell me something about yourself?"
"Well, I am a doctor, as you can see, and I am 32, single"
"Well, I live with my mom alone. Now usually girls don't reveal their age but since you just said I'm different, I am 32 as well, and obviously single"
That obviously part hurt him as if someone had pinched him really hard, he didn't know why
"Too bad for all the boys out there"
"Haha'you are really good at charming people, aren't you?
"So I am charming you!!!"
He gave her a smug look as she blushed
"topic change'so tell me, why didn't you marry?"
"tum nahi mili na"
She shot him a glare and he changed his cheeky expression and took the paper back from her
"Never found the one"
"Aha'ab main mil gayi Na'so what about now?"
He couldn't believe it that she was flirting back now. He looked at her and she winked and gave him that same smug smile.
A month or two later, they were already deeply and madly in love and had decided to get married, even though she was reluctant about it initially. But he had insisted he didn't care about anything and all he wanted was her, to spend his entire life with her. Of course it took a hell lot of time for him to convince her that he would love her forever, throughout thick and thin and even after death. And eventually they had got married with a small private ceremony, with only a few friends and relatives.
As usual, a tear glided down her cheeks as the beautiful memories with him mesmerized her. As soon as she wiped it off, her phone beeped once. It was a text message from him.
You won't stop smiling and crying at the same time over it ever, will you?
She was again in awe of him'.no one knew her as well as he did
Haha'pagal'.i love you
I love you 2, 3, 4, and much more'yahooo I can rhyme
She giggled again and put the phone beside her. She was indeed lucky to have him in her life, although he always said it was the other way round. He had taken away that little dullness from her and filled it with countless number of bright colors. He loved her and she knew her heart would belong to him always, no matter what. Probably, he was that angel her mother always told her as a child that would enter her life some day and make her feel complete, make her feel like she was the most beautiful girl ever and the centre of his world. Probably? Nah!!!! He really IS!!!!
The End
