The Friendship Festival which was recently held in London to promote cultural exchanges between the people of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh, has run into trouble.

Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor, along with Pakistani actress Meera were invited to take part in the three-day long event. According to sources present at the venue, Meera tried to hog all the limelight. She threw a tantrum over her fee for the show, used abusive language and snubbed fellow actors Shahid and Kareena.

Boisterous Meera

According to an eyewitness, Meera got rude with the emcee and showered her with choicest Hindi gaalis, without realising her conversation was being audible to a shocked audience. Our source says, "The emcee simply asked Meera why she kept disappearing from the limelight and Meera asked the hostess to switch off the mike and then bombarded her for asking her personal questions."

After the interview, Meera made a big fuss about the amount of money paid to be on the show. She was reportedly paid 5000 pounds for participating in the event.

"She kept throwing attitude and boasted that she is a big star in India and has signed four to five films with Mahesh Bhatt," says an eyewitness, who adds that Meera also cold-shouldered Kareena and her beau.

No personal sawaal

We called Meera who's in London to check with her about the charges. She confirms that she was put off by the questions posed to her.

"I was upset when she asked me why I kept disappearing for a long time. To that, I asked her to switch the mike off and politely told her that I won't answer such questions. I don't like discussing my personal life in a public forum. Besides that, I am a very accessible person and at no point in time have I absconded or vanished from any place."

As far as the money is concerned, Meera admits she charges nothing less than 10,000 pounds to perform at a concert. "They didn't ask for a performance, so I wasn't paid that amount."

Biggest draw

What about her alleged tiff with Kareena? "Actually Shahid went on stage some minutes before I was interviewed. I didn't meet Kareena or have any problems with them."

The actress goes on to claim she was the big star of the event, "Who are Shahid and Kareena? I was the big draw at that show. People went mad after me, there were lot of Pakistanis, and they wanted my autographs, and kept asking about my new releases. My fans want to see me working with Shah Rukh Khan and the top actors."

Meera moves on to talk about her next few projects with Mahesh Bhatt. "I am doing some interesting work with him." After having purchased a house in the city, the actress hopes more work comes her way. "Look at Rani, Aishwarya and Bipasha, they all are doing such a variety of roles. I too want to do some great work like them and make a name for myself."
