She opened the oak door with a hint of a push. Removing her bag around her neck she loosened it up trying to bring relief of the day.
Approaching the living room she could hear un-familiar voices.
Grabbing the arm of her younger sister simran who was coming down from the stairs, "who's here?" arohi questioned," be sure to smile" simran answered with a cheeky smile and a tease.
opening the door arohi entered in. Her dadi stood up, she began walking towards arohi and softly she placed her hands on her shoulders"this she is my grand daughter arohi."who are these people she thought as her grandma dragged her towards them.
"sasriakal" arohi winced in a smile. " sasriakal beta." As soon as her grandma finished introducing them to arohi, she forcedher to remain seated as she smiled nervously incontestable sat in between a young man in his mid twenties and his parents.
Darting her eyes back and forth arohi raised a question. "excuse me, dadi and mom could I have a word with you in the kitchen." arohi said in the most sweetest manner. As soon as They received a nod from the guest arohi dragged her grandma into the kitchen. Before arohi could say anything her grandma squealed "they here for your rishta, what do you think? Isn't the boy just sweet" the clues where all there should have guessed rolling her eyes she puffed arohi wasn't in the mood of a tussel nor a debate." sorry dadi tell them it Is a no and tell them to leave immediatley." she said firmly." what ! Ina sona rishta bar bar ne ounda. If you dont marry what will our community say ? your 24"" how many times do I have to say I don't want to get married yet!, I don't care what our community say or what you think." placing her hand on the black kitchen worktops." if your so excited about a marriage do it yourself i am sure mr jasbeer from next door won't mind your proposal."arohi, that Is enough." her mom shouted in anger.
The guest in the other room nervously sat as the loud voices travelled from the kitchen into the living room. Her dadi was quick to respond and point a finger as she raised her voice a tiny bit louder,"Can u hear how she rude she is,its all because of you. If you were not Running after that stupid cafe of yours, you wouldn't have forgotten your duties as a mother." she spat."if you have forgotten I had the duty of a father aswell who's fault is that." arohi who was tangled in between they argument, could not take a screech of another word rasing her hand."stop it, stop it,STOP IT."
Arohi's eyes went a tender brown with a brisk of annoyance and sadness hidden within them her voice was was filled with a quiver of anger ." Do you even know where to draw the line dadi," your talking about duties dadi, it Is the duty of a family to teach love, children in other homes have grown up watching love between they family all we have seen Is the hatred between you two." her eyes began to glisten as tried to hold her tears back, focusing her stare at her grandma." after the death of papa there has not been on single day where You two have not fought.who would want to tie a bond with our broken family, who would want to marry.Tell me!"
as silence fell from her moms and grandmas mouth sheFumed out of kitchen she walked Into the living room, placing her hands together. They guest plastered huge smiles on they faces, Assuming they heard nothing from the room next door." thank-you for coming,As I can see you have a beautiful family so i suggest you should leave since marrying into this family is a bad idea, we are all mad and will drive you all mad to.un- less you want to join our institution which your more than welcome to do so."
The guest shot up quickly placing the cups and plates on the table, each of them hurdling as they pushed one other from behind trying to make a quick exit. "sasriakal" as soon as they were out of sight arohi shut the door. Leaning her back on the doorletting her mind breath and free for a minute she sighed. Life was not the Same after her father died. blue became grey and sun became cold. Writings smudged and strength and patience became a goal. The soulful melodies painted her father have are just ripping scriptures.
what the hell, who is this singing early in the morning what horrible noise! Swing his duvet up he squeezed and stretched his eyes trying to open them. Tumbling out of his bed Arjun opened the window in front of him. Peeping outside his ears detected the noise was coming from next door.
I Cant believe this, an old lady singing. What a neighbour hood I guess I have to sort this out myself.Picking and pulling a simple pair of blue Jeans and a navy polo, he ran downstairs.
" aria who Is this singing." aria chuckled as she bounced an apple in her hand whilst she place her arm on Arjuns shoulder." you better get used it my darling cousins, miss kammo is our alarm in the neigbourhood she goes exactly at 8:45am every morning." staring at his sister with a raised eyebrow." your joking?" "ermm..nope." "so when does she stop?" "oh that I can't say since it varies." shrugging her arm of his shoulder,"i can't take it,I'm going over." running out, aria shouted from behind," wait! Wait for me." ignoring her he marched towards the door. Placing his finger on the doorbell he rang it continuously.
Taking a bite of her toast, arohi rolled her eyes as the door Bell went off like carzy." simran go open the door." simran moped around, ignoring her sister," simran OPEN THE DOOR." "do it yourself."
Giving her sister a dirty glare and elbowing her, arohi marched towards the door, who is this early in the morning can't people stay in the own homes." calm down I'm opening it!" arohi said in A hurried manner. Flinging the door open she stared at the unknown person in front of her.
