Poetry with a Witness

Lately we have begun to resent Anjali. But this episode was an eye-opener when it was aired. It opened up to us the world of Arnav and Anjali… and we were left in tears after watching and experiencing the special bond between the siblings. Only one word for the Mandir Milaap… "UNMATCHED"

I'll not say much… let the scene speak for itself. Because frankly, this cannot be described in words. I have only one thing to add… whenever you feel resentful of Anjali, just go back and watch this episode…

Khushi convinces Lavanya to co-operate with her. Lavanya assents for the time being, thinking secretly that she will go on with the act till ASR gets home.

The Apology.

Anjali is made aware of Khushi's resentment over the contract issue.

Unable to bear the distance the younger girl is maintaining with her, Anjali apologises and explains her predicament.

Khushi accepts her explanation and a friendship is born.

The talk turns to Raksha Bandhan. Anjali asks Khushi if she has any plans for RB.

On hearing that Khushi has no brothers, Anjali has the bright idea of Khushi tying a rakhi to her husband'

Prashikshan begins'

Shyam calls up Anjali and stages an emergency situation requiring 1 lakh rupees. Anjali agrees to give him 1 lakh by taking it from Chotte.

In RM, the ladies are having tea. Khushi gets up to leave. Nani asks her why so early.

Shart!

Anjali explains that Khushi has a condition on which basis she will do the job' Khushi further explains ' She will come after Arnav Ji leaves for office and will leave before he comes back, everyday.

But then, Anjali excitedly says that Chotte has a video conference today, he will come very late. She asks Khushi to stay a while longer' She can teach Lavanya to make Rotis'

The best-laid schemes o' mice an' men'

Go often awry!

Oops! The video conference is cancelled. Arnav heads for home. On the way he calls up Lavanya and is informed she is in the kitchen making dinner. He says he will see her soon. As soon as he disconnects he gets another call; from the contractor in charge of the catering, thanking him for the payment; and asking him what to do about that Khushi Kumari Gupta. The name stirs up Arnav.

He is abrupt with the contractor, saying that he has been paid, hasn't he?

Baat Khatam!

Arnav has been trying to forget the girl. He just can't seem to do it. Against his will memories attack him'

Hey! Devi Maiyya!

Arnav shakes off the feeling, whatever it was' and heads towards the kitchen, where Lavanya had said she was, earlier'

You sounded upset over the phone, Lavanya!

Mistaking the girl in the kitchen for his girlfriend, Arnav keeps his hand on her shoulders, and freezes' Wait! Lavanya? But I have touched her before. Is this how it is supposed to feel?

Arnav is confused'

There is something wrong' no' something different'

He finds out soon enough' as the lights come back!

For a minute he is stunned! Unable to believe this is happening. A girl who is able (without even trying, mind you) to rouse strong feelings in him' feelings unwelcome, not because they were unpleasant' in fact they were heady, though confusing ' but because they were uncontrollable'

And Arnav Singh Raizada liked to be in control. And he pushes her away from him'

Here she is' cool as a cucumber' in my kitchen, dammit! And all this while, I have been trying to forget her! Do I get no peace! Why, for heaven's sake!

' and Arnav explodes' and his rage bubbles forth' and explodes over poor Khushi's head'

Blind Rage, A Tantrum' and Consequences

Arnav is angry to find Khushi in his house' so angry, that he is not even aware that there is no reason for his anger. The last time he saw her was at the party, and she was serving jalebis' and he wasn't furious then' disturbed perhaps. But what had changed since then?

He shouts for his Di. A worried Anjali calls her husband and asks him to come home. Shyam asks her what is wrong, but she cuts the phone.

In the hall, ASR is in angry mode. Anjali approaches him and tries to reason with him. Arnav is in no mood to listen.

Why call her here? I don't want to even see her face. Sometimes on the pretext of giving her resignation, sometimes to supply sweets' she is always finding excuses to come here. She may have won you over with her sweet-talk and innocent face, but not me. I have seen her real face. A girl who would do anything for money.

Then he turns to Khushi'

Khushi Kumari Gupta! No matter how hard you try, I won't let you succeed. You will not be allowed to make a place for yourself in this house. Ab bas karo! It's enough!

Nani and Anjali try to intervene' but Arnav is too much in a crazed rage to listen'

No Di! I've had enough! Nani, I will not compromise even a minute for this girl.

Jis ladki ne meri insult ki hai, meri baat kaatne ki himmat ki hai aur mujhe ulta jawab diya hai, woh aaj mere saamne, mere hi ghar mein khadi hai!

Nikal jao mere ghar se! GET OUT!!!

Whatever just happened had torn Khushi's sensitive little soul to shreds. She had stood there' quietly, saying nothing in her defence' she had never wanted to come there in the first place. But she had been forced and manipulated into it. Tears come up in her eyes, brim up and spill over'

' and she looks at him' she knew it wasn't her fault. She knew his accusations weren't true' and she had an inkling that somewhere, somehow he knew it too' so she looks at him. A hundred questions in her eyes' and perhaps a statement too' that he was wrong'

And as always, Arnav is brought up short by the sight of her tears. Those tears had always disturbed him. He had tried to dismiss them as merely one of her many so called wiles, but they pricked him. They pricked his conscience.

He knew he had over-reacted. He knew he was being unfair. But he didn't react to her tears. He wouldn't react'

Poor Khushi leaves, quietly.

A disturbed Arnav watches her go.

She misses seeing some-one hiding just outside the door.

Anjali looses her temper'

You threw her out! Now YOU will bring her back here again!

Arnav refuses. When Anjali insists, he does the unforgivable'

YEH MERA GHAR HAI!

His thoughtless words fall on the shocked ears of his family. His sister is shattered'

Did you just say that?

Arnav is immediately contrite. He moves to placate the centre of his world'

But she rebuffs him.

Did my baby brother just say that to me?

Open the door, Di! I didn't mean it!

A reprimand and a reminder' tomorrow is Rakshabandhan'

SH*T! Now I've really capped it!

Determined'

Let's go back to Lucknow, Khushi'

Phone call from Lucknow' financial crunches' a helpless father's ill-health'

Don't worry, Jiji' Devi Maiyya will show us the way'

' and She did! Raizada ishtyle'

Oh! Well! He has never been their favourite visitor. But Devi Maiyya feels they shouldn't be cribbing about such trivialities. Bua Ji wonders if he had come to apologise' after his bad behavior'

Arnav Singh Raizada never apologises!

Keemat!

I'll be expecting you tomorrow'

Khushi will not be coming!

Tell him, Khushi! We are going back to Lucknow tomorrow; Babuji is ill' he needs us.

He waits a second' will she? ' or won't she? When she doesn't respond to her sister, he stalks off confidently' aur kahaan jayegi? Ayegi zaroor!

Why didn't you open your mouth? How could you remain quiet like this?

And she remained quiet. A mother's tearful voice ringing in her eyes' her father's helplessness and ill-health in the face of financial ruin'

Khushi Kumari Gupta had her first lesson in "DUNIYADAARI"

That idealism has its own place; in an IDEAL world' and her world was far from ideal'
