I really wanted to write on KANK as soon as movie was over.I was thinking to write on India forums and then just got delayed then I wrote it for some other site .Looks like still there is no KANK review in II2 so let me post my review here
First thing is I am not great KJ fan but I like him .I like him not because of his films but the way he talks and represents himself .His first movie was really great I mean how can we forget kuch kuch hota hai but the last movie was not at all good .Well it was successfull and nothing matters better than success anywhere in the world .
KANK is not kuch kuch hota hai neither it is Kabhi khushi Kabhi Gam nor Kal ho na Ho and still its not different .It has same people same kind of dialogs same kind of locations but the diffrent sitaution .I really felt watching extention of previous his movies and somewhere I felt it got same KJ flavour which is good as well as bad , for some people it works and for some it doesn't .
I guess now everyone knows the theme behind KANK but still let me write what KANK is all about.KANK asks really good question 'What if you meet your soul mate after the marriage ? and what will you do if you think you got married to really nice and good person but who is not for you ?' sounds really intresting I mean so many peoples might have gone through such situation .So in KANK Dev (SRK) is married to Rhea and their marriage is going through bad phase .Why it is going through bad phase dont ask me because you wont find any .SRK is bitter becase he can't play football anymore and he is failure and his wife is more successfull than him.But stick to the theme I mean everyone is nice but its mismatch and thats why this marriage is not working.
Now here is another couple Rishi ( Abhi ) and Maya ( Rani ) ..movie start with their marrige .Maya is not sure whether she is in love with Rishi or she is geting married to her best friend.Rishi is not complaining because he loves her and he wants to marry her.So confused Maya siting on bench and trying to find answer and here comes the bitter /angry Dev,I am not sure how Rani gets convinced to get married after listening to Dev.In my view he confuses her more .Anyway here first time Rani tells him never say Alvida and we get the signal that this guy gonna come again for her .
Well Maya and Rishi are married and they are too going through bad phase.Reasons ? Rsihi acts chlidish ( never showed anything like that its just Rani feels ) and he is too demanding in bed and he likes partying as he himself is a party planner.Well what is wrong in that I dont know but again its mismatch and somehow you start feeling that KJ just want Devand Maya to come close and get married to each other and here it fails .It really doesnt work with audiances.Dev's character sounds looks like some married guy trying to confuse another married women and trying to break her relationship.Its not too realistic like Arth or neither its like silsila .
There is Big B too and his character is really plus point of KANK.One of my friend was asking me why he showed Big B flirting with every girl and also he doesn't mind to pay for girls infront of his son.Well he is sexy sam and even you may not find some desi uncle like him in NY for KANK his character is very important .From sexy sam to matured Sam he rocks and thats our Big B and thats our bollywood legend .Give him any character and he will always come out as winner.
Let me write some plus points on KANK
1. Actors - yes we all know KANK is best of the bollywood talent and all did wonderfull job.
2.Songs - good music and thats plus point
3. Location ..yep KJ just loves NY and you can see that in movie
As far as acting goes I think SRK , Abhi , Rani , Preity ,Big B , Kiron Kher all did great job .You wont find them acting and its not dramatic too .May be Big B's getup is not that great I mean its too colourfull and dont tell me colourfull people wear colour full dresses only:) .For Sahrukh its just extension of Rahul and Aman and he is the perfect KJ's Dev .Personally I liked Abhishek more , may be because his character is too clean and in some scenes he was too good .Big B is rocking as ever and Rani is good too .Preity tried to do justice to her role and as such her character doesnt have that many shades.
Watch it if you are KJ fan and if you want to see his extension to all his previous movies.Watch it for Big B , Abhishek, SRK , Rani and preity . I still dont understand when Karan says his movies are not for NRIs , his movies are for Indians in all over the world then why dont he show everything in Bombay or Delhi ? Why only NY ? Well you can find so many similar stories in Bombay , Delhi and every metro in the world but KJ want people to see NY so watch it if you wanna see NY.
Last , the biggest weakness of KANK is its length and I think this time Karan just lost it in Editing.Also his comedy is not that great compare to his previous ones.Well still its not that bad if you have really more than three hours and if you are in good and timepass mood
