GV Prakash is AR Rahman's nephew and clearly he has music in his blood for the 25 year old has already composed the music for 25 films. His uncle may be a living legend whose boots are too impossibly big to ever be filled at this stage but GV Prakash has proved repeatedly that he is a talented composer in his own right who is here to stay.

AL Vijay's Thaandavam starring Vikram, Anushka and Amy Jackson is his 25th film and judging by the popular response it looks like GV has another winner on his hands. He could not have asked for a better way to mark the occasion. His foray into Bollywood – Gangs of Wasseypur 1 and 2 has also announced his presence in the fairer climes of the North with an explosive bang.

Veyyil was the film that introduced Tamil cinema fans to this promising youngster. Like the film, the songs were also fresh and vibrant. Veyilodu Vilayaadu and Urugudhe Marugudhe were the pick of this album.

Kireedom established that GV Prakash was not just a one film wonder as the songs became very popular indeed. Akkam Pakkam went on to become a massive hit and remains firmly entrenched in the minds of music lovers. Moreover, it marked the beginning of what has proved to be a successful collaboration between AL Vijay and GV Prakash.

Polladhavan had many tracks that went on to become chart toppers and was a commercial success for GV Prakash.

There was a lot of pressure on GV Prakash as hitherto, Selvaraghavan had worked exclusively with Yuvan Shankar Raja and the albums they had brought out were famed for the quality of the music. If he felt the pressure, the youngster did not show it and came up with some truly exemplary tracks that showcased exactly how versatile he was. A bravura performance!

AL Vijay and GV Prakash have made for a hit team and Madharasapattinam was another feather in their cap. Critics loved his work in this film especially the Pookkal Pookkum Tharunam number for its experimental quality. Apparently, GV had hit all the right notes with this gem of an album.

Aadukalam boasts of some amazing music. The Yathe Yathe number which GV himself crooned became wildly popular as did the joyful Otha Sollala. Another remarkable track is the Aiyyayo number which many will admit to having it on loop. It is small wonder that GV Prakash won the Filmfare award for his work on this album.

Selvaraghavan and GV teamed up again for this venture. GV's work won him accolades and many commented on his having matured as a composer which was indicated in tracks like Pirai Thedum.

Evidently AL Vijay brings out something special in GV Prakash. The music for Deivathirumagal came in for a lot of appreciation and deservedly so.

GV Prakash's music for the recently released Saguni proved to be a crowd pleaser with Vellai Bambaram and Manasellam topping the charts.

A whacky, quirky album, Va Quarter Cutting established his versatility yet again with enjoyable tracks like Saarp Saarp Ji and Saudi Basha and the melodious Thediyae Thediyae.
