hi everyone Shiv-Parvati marriage is considered to be the mother of all the other marriages an ideal one and is the basis for all the other marriages occuring in india but when we compare the marriage rituals they are totally different in different parts of the country...i m from karnataka in kannada marriages the couple never sit down there is a white cloth seperating the bride and groom and all the rituals are done standing...the stress in mostly on mangal sutra and kumkum on forehead is never considered imp...also there many more rituals which were not shown in the seriel.. my opinion is that as the evolution of marriage happend people must have made some minute changes over the time and collectively all these changes must have seggregated giving rise to new rituales... so please do share your opinion s and throw a light on rituales which are still followed today initiated in shivji s wedding...

Different regions have different rituals.Shiv and parvati wedding was mostly north indian wedding so they showed the pheras, sindoor and mangalsutra.I am oriya and we don't have sindoor or mangalsutra nor pheras.the bride and the groom hold each others hands and the priest ties a dhaaga on our hands and then the bride and the groom become husband and wife. This ritual is most important ritual and it's called as Hastaghanti.

Yes the rohini nakshatram viewing is very much done.. :)))) but no idea about the actual facts behind it :P
we also have the oonjal which is the cutest ceremony i think and also the fact that we sit on our father's lap when the mangalsutra is tied around our neck.

We are lifted by our respective Mama's [ mother's brother] ..After the wedding we have Nelengu. Games played by the bride and groom [ similar to searching or ring in milk ] the groom is asked to dress the bride.. etc etc
Interesting rituals ..and if the words of the purohit is listened to carefully there is lot of in depth meaning to it.. But who listens !!

some women put sindoor to show that they are married even though there's no ritual of husband putting sindoor on wife's forehead.Other than that, the ring which women wear on their toes signify that they are married.
