@jayvenk thanks for sharing your view... in your marriages does the groom show rohini nakshatram to the bride if yes then then why a bride must lie about its presence????/
rohini nakshatram is not visible during daytime still the priest ask to lie what is the reason behind it?//
Yes the rohini nakshatram viewing is very much done.. :)))) but no idea about the actual facts behind it :P
we also have the oonjal which is the cutest ceremony i think and also the fact that we sit on our father's lap when the mangalsutra is tied around our neck.

Different regions have different rituals.Shiv and parvati wedding was mostly north indian wedding so they showed the pheras, sindoor and mangalsutra. I am oriya and we don't have sindoor or mangalsutra nor pheras.the bride and the groom hold each others hands and the priest ties a dhaaga on our hands and then the bride and the groom become husband and wife. This ritual is most important ritual and it's called as Hastaghanti.

i ve seen in some of the movies the iyer marriages where the relatives lift the bride and groom and marriage occurs very cute and nice moments
we do have something similar to hastaghanti but its called kankana its tied to both bride and groom during the initiation of rituals and after the marriage is accomplished its removed...so in oriya what a women wear to symbolise her married status??????????
