its a tit for tat. there are hard core madhuri dixit fans who don't really need to bash sridevi on the trailer video either.
the trailer is interesting.

regarding the language thing it depends on which parts of India westerners visit. If they visit cities sure they can go around fine but India is still a pretty illiterate country with majority of the population being poor.
In states like Tamil Nadu even if they know english they won't converse with you in english cause they have loads of pride about being tamil.

My sister was working in Switzerland last year and she mentioned how some people would not speak English there even if they knew it. She gave the example of a store associate from whom she had asked directions to the currency exchange, the woman would only be speaking in her language even though it was obvious to my sister that she knew English. A family friend mentioned another country, (can't remember which one) where he was just asking his cabbie general questions about the place and where to go but he would not answer him in English even though my family friend knew he could. Finally, he asked the cab driver whether he is supposed to pay him tip or not and that's when the driver started speaking in English. It's very common all over Europe actually.

As for not knowing how to speak English, well there are people from small towns who don't know a word of English because they were not exposed to it. Like it's mentioned in the movie, SriDevi's character is illiterate. So I see nothing to be surprised about, in regards to her not knowing English. Remember the movie "Ramji Londonwaley" with Madhavan? He came from a small town or village in India and his English was like Sridevi's is here.

Its adorable. I'm looking forward to this movie. It seems like a cute feel-good film..and I was also reminded a bit of Mitr My Friend.
English is not spoken everywhere in India and not everyone knows it. They may know a few words here and there...some basic tooti-phooti English, but may not be able to hold an actual conversation. And some understand but can't speak it..

Even Indians who are older but know how to speak english are mocked in US cause of the thick accent. Think of apu from simpsons or Raj from big bang theory. The US present indians like that in thier shows even though most indians contribute to thier functioning work force.
