Its not a remake. I don't know if the makers have said it anywhere, though. But many movies have used the time loop trope, and quite successfully, too. There is Maanaadu (a big commercial blockbuster) and Game Over (also available in Hindi), using the same in Tamil. And there are more. Bollywood is just late to use it.
