I have noticed a trend in what it is about the writing that shows up as the most aggravating aspect for all three of the lead characters. Whenever the writers want to draw the attention and sympathy towards a particular character, it seems like every other character has to pay the price.
2. We all know Raghav is the "hero" in this situation. I think both sides (i.e. RaghVi and Viraj fans) of the forum know this. What the hell was the need to create a mockery out of Viraj by dressing him up as the Joker? Fine, the scene hasn't aired yet but what kind of scenario could possibly be in favour of that get-up? This is being done more or less to draw attention towards Raghav. Who pays the price? Viraj.
Hi Rova,
I agreed with your post, except on the quoted part. I've been watching the show since December 2011, before the hero's entry, and I just want to share a few thoughts here.
There is only one character on this show who has been given maximum screenspace and glorified and not made to pay the price at all -- and that's V. This is evident from day one. When Jahnvi was made weak in Manali, it was to enhance V. When she got pregnant and did nothing much on the show besides meditating, it was to enhance V. When she lost her child, hit rockbottom, but the following track was made to focus on V's treatment and how she supported him and cared for him rather than her own rockbottom and pain, it was to enhance V. When she escaped and they didn't even give her any time to heal before he found her again, it was to enhance V. When the hero entered, but was made nothing more than a handsome muscle to decorate the background, it was to enhance V. When they refused to have RaghaVi's story grow at all, it was to enhance V. When they made him lose his memory, it was to enhance V. When they introduced his double, it was to enhance V. When they got him involved with gangsters and master schemes, it was again to enhance V. Every time they let him win because, oh, he was "so much smarter" than the rest of the world, it was only to enhance V.
And in all this, Jahnvi and Raghav and every other character on the show was made to pay the price. Jahnvi was made to adjust to V's moods and changes and made dumber and whatnot, and Raghav was either sidelined or his scenes were stuffed with emotional drama because they knew Raghav fans would love that and they wouldn't have to focus on him more. In other words, he too was weakened as a character.
Think about it. When the hero finally enters -- and the hero's character was sketched from the start, even the head of content admitted this -- he's made into nothing more than an accessory. I bet that's not what was penned down from the start. In fact, I refuse to believe that his entry was supposed to be as late as it was. I believe that it all had to do with how the writers decided to focus on V, to keep glorifying him because apparently he had a lot of fans and that brought home some TRPs -- well, for a short while, at least, since there's a limit as to how long one can watch evil prevail on a show like this.
The problem has always been the great amount of space that they've given V, including the amount of power that he was allowed to gain in the narrative. Sia's psychological journey was often ignored in favor of his. And this is a standing fact. You've seen and still see every single thought running through V's head and at one point the writers introduced a double just to drill the point!
Another point is that every time Sia retaliated, the value of that retaliation was reduced by the emphasis on V. Plus the emphasis was such that V's tactics were different, but Sia's always remained the same.
In rape cases, there's a long phase in which the victim spends months, years, her whole life self-destructing, because the victim phase is like a cocoon where you don't have to take charge of your life. From that to the survivor stage -- where you recognize what happened to you can't change who you really are unless you let it -- is long and ardorous and that's where the character of V was made to ruin everything.
Imagine being raped/beaten and after maybe a month of the incident, you're made to face your abuser again -- there's no way that you'll be normal. So they spent a whole bunch of time having Sia veer between sympathy for this almost stranger and fear because of her knowledge of him. Where was the time to build that strength?
Kher. Right now, I feel like the two other leads have at least gotten a fair share of character development and screenspace than they have for the past many months. And I'm willing to see what happens in tonight's episode. Either way, I doubt that the Joker get up was the writers' idea to begin with, but that's just my own speculation.
And like someone here already pointed out -- this might or might not ridicule V, but will definitely put him in the limelight once again, have him be in focus rather than the victim or the hero for that matter. Really? V has been ridiculed so that Raghav could be glorified? First, Raghav SHOULD be glorified as he represents God and all that is good. He's the hero. And second, Raghav hasn't been glorified. He's been put in prison and made to hide in Sia's bathroom while V prances around torturing people. Again.
