"I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant " ' Robert McCloskey
..But how will I know if you don't tell me so?
First of all, I looked and looked for a 'Fist-Pump' emoticon. I didn't find one 😭.. so I had to make do with just letting you'll have a mental picture of me, doing a fist-pump every single time I hear that ASR BG score with that unmistakable riff, that makes your heart thump a little faster and your blood pound a little harder. ASR - The mean, khadoos Laad Governor is back! except with more hair gel 😡. The episode left me with a smile on my face, and a wee bit of sympathy for Khushi - oh, this is sooo her second 'welcome to hell' moment. But with a twist - 'cause while she is suffering, he is going to be suffering a little bit too. Hang the redemption - this is so much more fun!
Okay - deep breaths!!
Arnav and Khushi are still in the bedroom and she is still playing the avoidance game.
He wants to know why she lied to him and his family.
She doesn't want his ehsaan!
'Ehsaan!' He can't believe that she would use that word between a husband and his wife! It is almost a Khushi version of the 'aukat' word. She doesn't want his help anymore. He reacts equally angrily 'Buaji and this house MEAN something to me'. She searches his face .. to see if he meant it? He has grown to love and respect and honor this house and its occupants. She has seen that in him over and over, but now its like a veil in front of her eyes. Nothing he does or says will make any difference. She will see what she wants to see. Like I said, Khushi is now suffering from the Anjali syndrome!
Then she side steps - 'I wanted to come to here, I need to be here'.
And his simple 'Why didn't you tell me?' is that of gentle understanding husband.
'What happened the last time I did so, on my birthday?' He has the grace to be ashamed and apologises for it. How easily it comes to him now. He can say sorry and say it with meaning - to her.
Khushi is so wrapped up in her 'terrace' moment - the moment he brought up the contract marriage that it has wiped out her whole understanding of him. She has told Devi Mayya that she isn't mad at him anymore. In reality, she is. All her hurt is because of those confounded words that came out of his mouth, in desperation. She has taken that moment and hugged it around herself as protection against her powerful love for him. She has even gone into denial about how much he loves her! This is how deep the fog is in Khushi's brain.
She continues to avoid him. Not a single straight answer - not to him and not to her parents and not to Buaji.
They leave the room. It is a poignant moment when he replies to Buaji's 'Is everything okay?' with a quiet maybe and a very thoughtful look on his face. She shuts the door on him, but he holds it open - one last time. 'I am with you', please tell me whats bothering you?'
How will I know if you don't tell me so?
She doesn't. She just closes the door, literally and figuratively on him.. Communication is the key in a relationship. And for them, communication has never been easy. Arnav has actually opened himself up so much more than she has.
'I love you' - okay, so that was literally at gunpoint. But he got it out there for her, because he needed her to hear it and to know it.
'It's high time when I come forward, You meet me half way. In fact, I want us to walk forward together'. If that's not a proposal, what is?
Of course, this was before Khushi's 'terrace' moment.
But since then, he has tried verbal and non-verbal communication. And the non-verbal ones have got him the desired response. But she is still not telling him anything. She is still not sharing what SHE feels. For all her self-proclaimed 'ek hum hain ki dil mein jo hai, woh bol detey hain', she has never, ever in words acknowledged her feelings towards him to him. The only time she ever did that was in the star-crossed conversation.
He gets his a-ha! moment when he comes back home. In 12 days, their marriage will be 6-months old! The contract! Of course, That's why she went away. But ASR is ASR, first a-Ha! then What the! and then the smirk - oh the smirk! His self-confidence reasserts itself. 'After 12 days, you will forever become Khushi Kumar Gupta...Singh Raizada'. Notice the pause here before the last two words. Its almost like he is savouring that moment, the simple pride in those two words - Singh Raizada. The pride he has in her taking his name and making it her own.
The key here is the last thought 'Iss baar sab kuch mere tarikey se hoga.'
The last time he planned to do this - we never heard his thoughts - just a series of flashbacks to their real romantic moments. We never knew what he was going to do or say. He was ready to make the commitment, but he never got the chance. But this time, he is preparing. Preparing for the biggest battle to save his love and his life. And God help anyone that comes between him and Khushi now, even if it is Khushi Kumari Gupta!
No more games Khushi, this time the lion is on the prowl, and his focus is you, on winning your heart over in 12 days. We will be counting down with you, Mr ASR!! And we REALLY want to see how ASR woos his girl.. because after all, so far its been Arnav that has been doing all the hard work, and getting nowhere. Let's see where this gets you! Because unless she accepts you, how will your redemption be complete. Romance for redemption - nayi soch indeed!
CUT...
To Khushi's dreams. (I have missed those dreams.)
In true Khushi manner, they are ridiculous - but with deep meaning. She still thinks he has done her a favor, many favours - under which she is bowed. But this scene is all ASR. His almost evil look of glee (just slightly underdone by that ugly hair gel... okay I REALLY hate it!!) is just unfair (to the general female population, I mean).
'Wohi toh main chahta hoon', what the? Khushi really imagines that he wants her to be so indebted to him? Is that how she thinks he will hold her?
'I'll return every single paise I owe you'.
Two things are acknowledged here - the money and the owing.
Khushi understands very well still that she not only owes him money, but she also owed him her life; he has saved her life - twice that she knows of, and once that she doesn't know of. It is said that when someone saves your life, they own it. Arnav owns Khushi's life and she owns his, for she has saved his life - and his heart as well. They are equals - but she has yet to comprehend it.
On the other hand, however much his words about 'aukat' (= money or lack of it) might have hurt her, she never let it get to her. In a way, she is aware of the difference in their aukat - but her self-confidence has always helped her meet it head-on. Unlike Payal, who is acutely conscious of it, Khushi confronts it and decides its not worth her time. However, at this moment, her self-confidence and to a great extent - her self-esteem is very low. That he has been trying to build it up is something that she also knows, but only on a sub-conscious level.
'Somebody said the exact same thing to me once before, Khushi Kumari Gupta' pause...a devilishly droolicious smile (😆The collective world of phangurls hearts stopped beating at this point! 😳) '...Singh Raizada'.
This is the key to her deepest desire. For him to call her Singh Raizada and mean it. To be accepted by him as a part of him. To feel proud and know his pride in all that that name implies. THIS is what Khushi wants - her dreams tell her the truth, that she wants HIM to articulate it. She wants the words!
How will I know if you don't tell me so?
D-Day -12
Khushi wakes up to 'Subah ka Sapna' - they come true, huh?
Amma and Babuji are back. Babuji is slowly getting back to normal - a little feel good scene here. Its a beautifully done scene, and so NORMAL!! Her mother asks the obvious question 'Damadji bhi aaye hain kya?' She is stumped - once more she is on avoidance track. One more lie as she opens the door to the landlord.
The games are on! ASR has stopped the check. The landlord hands out a verbal 24-hour eviction notice. She is devastated!
Back in ASR's cabin. She marches in. He is busy and holds up his hand to shush her. None of her questions are being answered. He is being rude. He ignores her. He even asks for ONE coffee! In other words, he is being ASR. The ASR that she fell in love with.😲 We lucky viewers know that this is his game plan.
Khushi on the other hand, has no clue and oh my! She is furious! She goes straight into wife mode - 'Now Listen to ME!' after all, haq banta hai..us pe!
He gives her the exasperated, bored husband look and goes, 'Haan, bolo'. She is stunned. 'I'm listening', you can almost hear the mental sigh and the 'whatever' that goes with it.
The role-reversal is being taken to a new level. Remember her 'swami' days? Payback is a pain, isn't it? And ASR is determined to make her eat crow and how!
She fumes about him paying the rent, and then taking it back.
He is now sarcastic. You have a problem if I pay, you have a problem if I don't pay. I almost expected his next words to be 'What do you want, Khushi Kumari Gupta?' but all he says is 'You amaze me, Khushi' (I almost heard the 'NOT' at the end of the sentence).
She shares with him. Finally. Her worries about the rent, and the eviction. Even though it is for someone else, she finally opens up to the man she knows and understands - ASR! This is a man that she is strangely enough, comfortable with to VERBALLY share what is going on in her head!
He continues to rile her, 'Help chahiye mujh se?'
'Nahin hum sambhal lenge.' He wasn't expecting anything less from her.
And then, 😲 her dream comes true! 'Yeh line maine pehley bhi kahin suni hai' feigned thinking..'Oh! Tumse hi to suni hai'. The expression on her face is priceless!!
And then - for the pay-off (remember I said they played this game?) - the challenge is thrown 'But why do I feel that you will come back to me only for help?'
Khushi falls for it - hook, line and sinker! 'Never!' This time there is no look back over her shoulder. But he is pleased - she has already come to him once, she HAS to come back to him again - and that too before the contract ends!
I was left wondering at that last sentence.
It holds so much promise. WHY does he need her to come back before the contract ends? So that they can both renew their vows together? But then, there can't be a renewal of vows if the contract doesn't finish. So much for the much-hyped Re-Marriage track! This thought process threw me for a googly, so thank you CVs for giving me this hope! I expect something in true ASR ishtyle!
So bring it on, all you people who think ASR is being mean and cruel and sarcastic and unfeeling. Yes he is, except the unfeeling part. The man has learnt how to deal and express his feelings - or he is still learning. But the rest - this is the ASR Khushi fell in love with - and so did we all! So why the complaints, dear forum-waasis? We rejoiced when we saw him do a comeback during the end of the kidnapping track. And I personally, rejoice at this return too
After thoughts:
The mytery of The Strange Conversations of Anjali Jha- part 2. Is she really talking to somebody? Or has she also now be inflicted by the infamous Khushi-style bad-bada-oing syndrodrome? Or is she(oh no!!) talking to Snakewa on the side? Has she really imbibed the snake's potion so much that she is now secretive and lying?
Given that ASR is now counting down 12-days - I will take bets at this point on when Snake will be back. My theory - D-day-1! In time to stop the union/reunion/vow renewal/remarriage or whatever it will be.
Mamiji-Bondji - inbhestigate to karo!! hamein janna hai! Aap ki bitiya Yeh saanp ke saath rehtey-rehtey kitni zahar pi thi? Aur kitni zehreeli ho gayi?
Who knojh?
