My evaluation
Susheel and Alisha- I am still appalled by how bad his posture is. I mean, does he have some back problem or something? And his upper body movements are more "dheele" then Pratyusha's. This act was perfect for him because he was playing a gangster, who are often portrayed with such a gait as he has. But I have to hand it to him that he was coordinated, well at least a little bit. The high light of the performance was after the line,"mach mach nahi karne ka," where he did that isolation bit. That was pretty cool.
Gurmeet and Shampa-I never ever thought that he could perform this well. Until recently, his performances have left me heavily disappointed, but I didn't feel that way today. Everything was so spot on. And doing robotics is actually quite difficult, contrary to the belief of many here. Every single movement, every turn of every joint, is controlled and made to look mechanical. He even made the beating heart look that way! I especially liked when the music got messed up and we saw that coordinated robot malfunction through his head movements. And the proposal at the end. Awww! How sweet!
Shibani and Punit-I have got to say, this jodi has been the most versatile jodi of the season so far. I mean, lyrical contemporary the last week and an item number this week? They're all over the place! And lol, Shibani, her lataks and jhataks were so much better than Munni or Sheila's! And her energy level was just fantastic. But Punit's expressions kind of distracted me a bit. Maybe he thought that since he was wearing the sunglasses, he needed to utilize every single facial muscle to compensate for his eyes. But either way, he is beyond cute and I loved him for his expressions. And…the kind of aerial bit they did with the cot was cool. I was surprised that the judges, especially Remo, didn't point that out!
Pratyusha and Deepak- I loved the concept. I loved the music they chose. I love the choreography, but I hate how it was performed. I mean, Deepak did his full part with the entire thing. Popeye and Olive are such iconic characters and he presented them in such a fun way! But the energy level wasn't there to carry it through. That's all that I can say.
Giaa and Nishant-Great performance, but I still fail to see how it was a comic act. Isn't comedy supposed to make you laugh? It didn't really work for me at this point, but other than that, it was carried out very well. It had such tollywoodish dance steps and everything was spot on. Kudos to them!
Isha and Salman- That was by far the best performance I had ever seen! It was beyond amazing! I'd like to say that it didn't scare me one tiny bit, but that would be lying. Truth be told, I was kind of spooked by it. And Isha is such control over her body and she is so flexible and strong. How could she bend that way and fit herself in that tiny bag. And then the way he carried her by simply holding her feet. I think that was the scariest part-the fact that she could bend in such inhuman ways. Gosh! They should just hand her the trophy right now.
Jayati and Diwakar- The concept and dance were both very very very very very lame. I think I put too few "very's" there. The idea of a corrupt government could have been taken to such deep levels, but it wasn't. They could have shown some pathos or ethos through emoting the suffering and injustice done to the janta and the greed of the politicians. That they didn't. They just used Will Smith's one liner, and as epic as it is, it didn't work well here. And as per dance, there was so little of that. Yes, their theme was drama, but you still have to have dance somewhere in there! Diwakar should have shown her a clip of what tap dancing is supposed to be like. It's definitely not like what they showed us.
Bharti and Savio-I was bawling like a baby by the end of it. And I think that's what dance, or any other art form out there, is about, emoting something, getting a point across, and touching the audience. The "bha" in bharatanatyam stands for "bhaav" or "emotion." I guess the "bha" in "Bharti stands for the same. Yes, there were tiny flaws in her performance. The lifts were not the most graceful, but comeon. Look at Savio and look at her. How is he supposed to pull that off? It wasn't a 30 point performance, but it came very close.
Ravi and Kunjan-I understood what they were going for and for the most part, they kind of achieved it. But I think that that had more to do with Kunjan's work than Ravi's. There was very little dance in the thing. I mean, he did that one kick off the side of the sofa, and a little bit more. The main thing that shone out for me were the lifts. The part where she tried to run past him, and he caught her was, as Remo said, very clean. And the part where he swung her around was a bit scary to watch. I was biting my nails, afraid for the poor girl because I thought she might hit her head on the edge of the table or something. She was so level with it. Um, definitely not one of the jodi's best performances, but it had its good moments.
Darsheel and Avneet-Was I the only one who wasn't charmed by this performance? I mean, it was cute, but we need something that's more than just cute. It wasn't that well coordinated and there were quite a few fumbles in all the lifts (maybe because Darsheel is so young?). The part where they tried to make it look as if their heads were rolling across their stretched arms wasn't convincing. And their movements overall just weren't as clean and crisp as they should be in a lyrical contemporary. For me, their best performance was their first one, and it just went downhill from there.
