As we sit down to chat with the suaveShahid Kapoor, he reminisces his last trip to Ahmedabad, five years back when he came during the Times Ahmedabad Navratri festival. He tells us how he enjoys people calling his name in the crowds and fans cheering him and even today, when he is waiting for a hit movie at the BO, the actor is happy that fans have still not stopped cheering and clapping for him.
He says, "During Navratri, my female admirers had really shown a major appreciation for my work. It was tough to handle them," he says with a twinkle in his eyes. Shahid might not talk about his current relationship status, but he shares his take on love in times of social networking sites, smses, smartphone pins and emails. He says, "Present day romance is so filled with exchanging messages online that sometimes I do feel nervous about meeting the same woman on a date. I feel awkward and wonder whether I'll be able to have the same chemistry as I have with her online?". Excerpts from a chat session:
After Mausam, your next flick released after two years. Was this break a conscious one?
Mausam was an ambitious project and it took two years of my life. An actor's career is like that. You have a few hits and then you have a few flops. You have to keep working hard and hope that something will click. Although,Kaminay worked at the BO, I realize that audiences still remember me better in Jab we Met and Vivaah, so I thought of going back to what the masses like me doing - love stories. And besides, I am only 31, have a long way to go before people can give me ideas for an alternate career.
Do you feel now the pressure to give a hit becomes stronger when your last few films haven't worked?
Honestly, I don't like thinking of my last so-called hit or flop film. Secondly I also don't like complaining about my work. When you choose a film you don't think that 'oh this will make '100 crore so let me do this'. The '100 crore films like Rowdy Rathore, Dabangg, and Agneepath were done by actors who have been in the industry for a much longer time than me. I think we should be given some time before our films can reach the '100 crore mark. The business of films is rapidly growing. If today it is about '100 crore, tomorrow it will be more than that! It's best to stay focused and positive about your work and not worry about the numbers.
You have a good chemistry with Priyanka Chopra. Is it because of your off-screen friendship with her?
I did not even know Priyanka when we did Kaminay together. I get along with many women but can't get them to be my heroines just because of that. Priyanka is a positive, intelligent and optimistic person, and also a great team player. She is fun to be with and a good actor and that's why we click.
