Shivraj Shekar is a man of principles... he even parks the jeep to take calls. He carries his resignation letter in his pocket, so nobody can improperly pressurize him. He is not only principled, he strong and intelligent. He saw through Heth Singh's ploys on his own and was smart enough to call the police before going to stop Jyoti's bal vivah.
1. But, was it correct for him to throw those extra punches in the name of Anandi's family honor and the kids to the grooms dad?
2. And was it proper for him to throw the first punch at Jug's taunts?
Yes there mitigating facts in both circumstances. The groom's father tried to blow out Anandi's brains, had his men beat Shiv, and was clearly engaged in illegal conduct. But, prior to the slaps - Shiv clearly had things under control and police were on route. As for the brawl with Jug - J was clearly going to hit the sabziwala, he taunted Shiv, was holding his collar, and outright drunk.
And yet both these incidents trouble me because Shiv represents the law, but he himself is not above the law! That's the job of the police (to arrest) and courts (to determine guilt and punish wrongdoer). Drama and viewer satisfaction in seeing him defend Anandi and Jug's beating aside...did the Creatives diminish Shiv's character through these acts?
