Chapter 22
A lot of confusion over took her hurt brain. She couldn't think properly. Everything was coming back to her. Her head pounded in her body. The night of the incident came back to her. She received flashes of the night... The car... two people running...holding hands... just running to save themselves... And then it happened.
The accident... The next thing she know⦠she saw herself lying on the middle of the floor, a pool of blood already lay by her head. Someone besides her shrugging her frantically to get her to speak... She flashed her eyes open and sat up straight, breathing hard. She looked around to see where she was. In darkness, she saw wires attached to her hand. From her surroundings, she made out that she was in one of the hospital rooms.
It pained to think. But she looked around, only looking for one person: Abhay. She had to ask him what happened after that night. She tried thinking, but everything was blank. She couldn't remember anything. She started wondering how she ended up in the hospital and slowly remembered Jeh⦠Abhay's saving⦠him pushing her away and then the last flash⦠She was lying in Abhay's lap and struggling to say the three magical words, fearing she will never see him again.
She pulled the tabs on his hand away and got out of bed. Everything was dizzy but she didn't care. She made her way out of the hospital room, in search for Abhay. She had to find him no matter what. She needed to know about that night. Coming in the corridor, she paused for a second to overcome the dizziness. The medicines must have been heavy to make her dizzy.
She had lost a lot of blood and a white bandage was fastened around her forehead. She heard a voice behind her but she didn't understand what the person was saying. It was none other than Abhay. He rushed to her and supported her to stand straight.
She saw his face and was elated to see him. He was saying something but she wasn't listening. The pain in her head was too hard to ignore and focus on him.
He was scolding her for getting out of the bed, in a cute, worried manner.
"A- Abhay." She managed to say his name. He understood that scolding her at that time wasn't the right thing. She wasn't even listening! He helped her back in the room and helped her sit comfortably on the bed, number of pillows behind her to help her back. He ordered her to not say another word.
"Quiet now. Sit here and don't you move! I'm going to get the doctor and we'll talk after that."
She smiled and nodded, taking his worry for her in consideration and decided upon waiting. As it was, her head was pounding and in that condition, she wasn't much capable of hearing the story from Abhay, even if she was really impatient of knowing what had happened. She wanted to know everything but knew she'd have to wait.

Abhay went out the room after seeing a sound sleeping Pia. His heart was at ease now seeing her out of danger. It had been over 15 hours since the incident had happened. But to him, it felt as if it had just happened minutes before and thinking about it, he would get all hyper again. To avoid thinking of negative possibilities, he decided to get himself a coffee.
He entered the hospital canteen and minutes later, come out holding a cup of coffee. His cell phone rang. He sat out down on the nearby chair and carefully placed the cup on the chair's arm. Seeing Misha's name flash on the screen, he turned worried for a while.
Putting on a smile, he received the call. "Hey Misha! What's up?!"
Misha replied angrily, "Don't hey me. Where the hell is Pia? I've been calling her since morning but she hasn't been picking up. I can understand if she was busy but she didn't even care to call back! Give the phone to her. I'm going to yell at her!"
Abhay listened to Misha's vent quietly and waited for her to finish. Then he calmly said, "Mish, calm down. Actuallyā¦" he told her about the incident with a heavy heart. He didn't want to upset her and was debating whether to tell her or not. He finally told her thinking that she would get madder if he didn't tell. Plus, making up a lie in front of her would be hard. She always caught his lies in seconds.
Misha was very worried when Abhay finished. He ended saying, "Don't worry. She's fine now and out of danger. Just some weakness, that's it. She's right now sleeping due to heavy medications. I'll have her call you as soon as she's better to talk."
"Take care of her Abhayā¦" Misha said even after knowing that she didn't have to tell him. He would do that regardless of anyone asking him to.
"I will and please don't tell anyone else. Everyone over there will get very worriedā¦" he asked her.
She paused a second to think and then gave her reply. "I won't as long as you promise to bring her back here when she's better. I don't want her there anymore. We sent her there so she can have some change in life. Obviously, it turned out to be the wrong option seeing the result. "
"Hmm⦠okay, I promise to bring her back once she's better." He said to her and the call ended. Misha went to her classes, still a little worried about what would happen next. She only wanted Pia to be happyā¦
Abhay continued on his way to Pia's room and sat by the bed on a stool holding her hand till his eyes gave up and finally drooped to deep sleep. Holding on to her arm, he felt at ease and somehow, it comforted him that she was safe.

The rest of the night passed by, both of them sleeping holding hands. Abhay's head rested on the bed and neither of them woke up till the nurse came in the next day to check up on Pia.
Abhay scrunched his eyes open hearing the rattling of tools behind him. Seeing the nurse, he got up and slowly let go of Pia's hand. The nurse passed him a sweet smile and after returning the smile, he headed out to freshen up. This gave nurse the time to complete her check and fill in the chart on Pia's progress.
When Abhay came back looking completely fresh, the nurse was gone and Pia was awake. She smiled seeing him and he did as well. He walked up to her and sat on the stool again. "How are you feeling now? Better?"
She nodded. He looked out to see the sun high up in the sky already. She frowned making a cute sound and he turned his attention back to her. "What happened Pia? Is your head hurting?"
His hand went up to her head in concern. She smiled and assured him. "No Abhay, I'm fine. I really am, trust me." She made a cute face and continued, "It's just that I'm starving. My stomach's grumbling and I want food."
He relaxed and giggled at her problem. "Bas, is that the only problem? Very easy, I'll go get food for you right now."
He turned to leave but she held him arm to stop him. Confused, he turned back to her. She replied, "I don't want hospital food. It's never good or tasty."
He tried to reason, "But Piaā¦"
She mimicked in his tone and completed what he was going to say, "It's not good for your health." She returned to her own voice and completed sternly, "Good my foot. If you want me to become as good as normal, then give me food; anything but HOSPITAL FOOD."
Abhay was pulled back to the time when they had first met after long time. The time when he had went back to India and they had met at the party. That night when she woke up, she had demanded sweets as well. Now, she was demanding food. A sweet smile spread on his lips as he remembered the happy day. He had been thrilled to see her that day. Today, things were different but he had decided to make them right.
"What happened?" she asked when he didn't reply, pulling him out of his thoughts. He shook his head and gave her a smile. He walked to her and held her hand.
"You have to promise to eat it though and not do the same you had done to sweets."
She made a thinking face just to tease Abhay a little. Then teasingly, she replied, "Hmm⦠I won't if you bring it on timeā¦"
"Done," he said and was out of the room in no time. He didn't want to tolerate any of her craziness later on if he was a bit late. He was really worried for her and she had to take food on time to get better as fast as possible.
