Yes, public speaking is really very very scary for me 😆
However, despite being shy, I do manage to talk once I get on stage and START speaking, inspite of my heart pounding HARD, i manage, and I do feel like I fare OK at grabbing the audience's attention/making a connection with them, .. I study in a college where we have seminars every other day, even if we dont... suddenly my professor will call for a discussion and we all have discussions, debates, etc. so, it's helpful.
Public speaking is enhanced by good command over language, when you can oragnise your thoughts and are clear about what your talking. I do well when it comes to clarity and organizing thoughts...but I always suck at using good, impressive words :( ...I am working on it. My sentences are always too simple and bland. I have communication skills, but I feel it's necessary to use impressive appropriate words and phrases to make your oration sound good.
Why are people afraid of speaking? IDK! lol... maybe it's just because so many people look at you with their googly eyes, which just makes you feel weird 😳

There are many reasons to be scared of public speaking which are actually interlinked. It could either be that we are not able to gather our thoughts together and thus not able to present it convincingly. since we think we will no be convincing enough, we will not be able to hold the interest and attention of so many people we are addressing. So failure becomes the second fear. Third fear can be the inability to communicate in a particular language.

One must start talking to a small group of people for starters and keep doing it. Gradually, the comfort level will rise and public speaking will hopefully be a little less scary.
