CHAPTER 4 : Khushi's Fiance
A couple of hours later, the crowd of reporters had increased even more if anything! Arnav switched the TV on and across all the Channels News was being broadcasted about the Latest Hot Gossip being Arnav was already married and he had a baby as well. Photos of Khushi and baby Riya was flashed across the screen repeatedly. Photos of them leaving together, giving the illusion of a married couple when the truth was something else!!
Khushi was blinking repeatedly, trying to hold the flood of tears at bay. It was just too much! She had lost her job yesterday; And then later she had discovered the physical abuse that Riya had endured from Payal and then Payal had explained to her that it would be Khushi shouldering the blame for the abuse if the money wasn't transfered into Payal's account today!! And ofcourse, the burglar who had broken into her apartment, rendering Khushi n Riya homeless. And now, the reporters were trying to link her name to this rich man!!! Was there a silver lining to her problems??
What will she tell Sidharth, her fiance?, she gasped at the mere thought. His mother was already looking for excuses to break their alliance and the reporters wrong story will do the job perfectly, unless Khushi got in touch with them first and set the record straight.
She quickly approached Arnav and asked,"Could I please use your phone? I have to make an important call?"
"Sure," came the off-hand reply.
Khushi picked up the phone and dialled Sid's phone number. Luckily, it was Sid who answered the phone. "Hello, This is Sid here,"he answered.
"Sid...", said Khushi.
"Khushi?!!...Is that you?...Are you alright? Where are you?... and.. what's all this I am seeing on TV?" asked Sid worriedly.
"Sid...I.." said Khushi, but before she could say anything further, she heard on the phone, "You listen!!! I have thousasnds of alliances coming to my house for my son and I don't care how beautiful your face might be, it seems your deeds are just as black!!! You had said that you were raped!!...Raped my foot!!!...You were just looking for a rich man to get hooked...and when that Raizada was not there you came grabbing my son...and now you are back with that MAN!!!...Finish!!!...This alliance between you and my son is broken NOW...Do you hear me you ****?" raged Sid's Mother on the phone.
Khushi started crying again...She could hear Sid trying to plead to his mum to listen to Khushi's side of the story...and then Khushi heard Sid's mother say," Either you choose me or her over my dead body!!!"
Khushi felt broken. She didn't want to be the cause of a separation between mother and son! "Khushi...listen,... I will ring you back when mum has calmed down, ok?" suggested Sid, taking the phone from his mother and trying to reason with Khushi. He wanted to hear her side of the story!
"Sid...I ...am sorry...Its...Its over...I don't want you choosing me over your mother or for that matter fighting her for me...I can't let that happen!...Goodbye Sid," said Khushi and hung up the phone.

Arnav had been silently witnessing the whole scenario and nothing was making sense to him! He had met Khushi over a year ago. At that time Khushi had introduced herself by another name...
But then, last week, when he had opened the file labelled Report Summary of Khushi Gupta, he had been shocked!! He had never forgotten her, he just had not known where to look for her...
But Di said Khushi is the causeof her sorrows!! ...If Khushi carried Jijaji's child, then she would havehad to be sleeping with him around the same time I met her...SHIT!!!...Did she "two-timed" him? ...
However, when he had met her last night, she hadn't given any indication of remembering him. At first he had thought that maybe she could not see his face clearly, and then later at the house he had thought that maybe due to exhaustion and shock from the burglar incident she could not recall him!
But this morning...and even now he couldn't see any indication that she recognized him!!! How could it be?? He knew that they had met only 3 nights in a row...but still, a woman would never forget the person she lost her virginity to!!! Would she???
And then just now from what he had heard from Khushi's side on the phone...Was she just putting on an act for his benefit??? NO...it couldn't be...it appeared to be genuine enough!!!, his heart argued back.
There was something odd going on...of that he was sure...even though he couldn't quite place his finger on it...but something was dreadfully wrong...and then it clicked, *Riya's eyes*...last night when the child had looked at him, he could have sworn that were a mirror image of his and Di's eyes!!
But if it was indeed Shyam's baby, then how??? ...Something was definitely fishy!!!
What was what? His mind asked questions that he didn't answers to...and his heart refused to believe what his brain was clearly spelling out to him...He felt as if though he was lost in a maze ...
He had watched Khushi's reaction when the photographers had taken their pics...and even now when she was watching the broadcasted news...BUT not even for a split second she looked anywhere close to happy...or smug...Could his Late Jija ji have made a mistake? ...Maybe Riya was not his baby?...
He quickly picked up the empty milk bottle which Khushi had left at the table and walked to the kitchen. Once there, he spoke to HP, " HP, put this bottle in a plastic bag and send it to Dr Brown and tell him that I want a full report on this...DNA match to mine, anything and everything. If he needs more samples, then just tell Khushi that there is a virus outbreak and that it is compulsory for everyone in this house to get tested by the family doctor...make any excuse!!...oh and if she does happen to go with the baby as well then ask Dr Brown to do her analysis as well...If she is the baby's mother...and everything...ok?"
HP nodded his agreement. He had worked in this family for years and he would do anything to help out. Plus if the baby was a Raizada then he wanted the baby to stay here as well, the house was getting too quiet for his liking ...

After that, Arnav casually walked to Khushi, desciding to test her, and said,"Look I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. It seems that your alliance got broken because of me...so I will set everything right."
As soon as Khushi heard that, she breathed a sigh of relief. It would be so much easier if Arnav himself could clear the misunderstanding between Sid's mum and her. She looked up into Arnav's eyes, waiting for him to offer to clear up all the misunderstanding..
But, the very next instant, her whole world stopped when Arnav said,"...since your alliance was broken because of me and the papers have linked your name to mine and it seem you have no where else to go, YOU are now my responsibility. Don't worry I won't leave you alone. I will marry you! I will have the necessary papers arranged and by the end of this week, we shall be married."
Saying that Arnav flipped his phone on and started making the required calls to get everything arranged, not even waiting for Khushi's response.
Khushi was shocked. Was she a doll or a thing that didn't have an opnion of her own? She didn't even know him...she had just met him last night!!!...Why should he have to marry her?...He was rich, he could just clearup all this gossip and misunderstanding in no time, why instead marry me? ...
The first seeds of doubt made its root in Khushi, was he going to sell her?, she thought...she had heard of people marrying young women and then taking them to some far off destination and selling them...or even *gulp* killing them...Khushi hugged her baby tightly, making up her mind to escape at the earliest given opportunity...
And go where? asked her brain...
Arnav watched from a distance. Again, instead of being ecstatic at the proposition of being married to a Business Tycoon, she sat there lost!! There was definitely something not right, If she was after money and wealth as his Jija ji wrote in his diary then she should have atleast nodded or reacted in any positive way!!! Not look pale as a ghost and scared!!!
Why did she look so scared? Its not as if he was going to murder her!!
He could still remember the first time he had met her...over a year ago...she had been so different then, but what had happened in that span of 15 months that had changed her so much...what was it?
