Character Analysis Thread

Hi Friends,..😳

I thought to put up a thread where we can do some character analysis of some significant characters from the show Gulaal..
Hope u all will be interested.. please do tell ur opinion😊
...

Talking about the show Gulaal,.. there is a lot of points in it,.. which we can go on discussing again and again and each will open up a new perspective of the same. In Gulaal, there were so many inevitable characters whom stood alone with leads, in the shaping of the story and also uniting the leads.. or in other words, certain characters with out whom, the union of Gulsar was nearly impossible.. Even though Vasanth comes first in the list, more than him the significance goes to some other person,.. who not only became the sole reason for Gulsar,.. but also found a rebirth of himself in the whole process...His journey from the devil to the saint,.. a villan for whom we sympathised or even empathised at some point... Dushyanth..

Kesar always have tried to hate Gulaal, on all those 10 yrs, but all that he could do was nothing but love her.. but what existed between Kesar and Dushyanth was much more complicated.. It was always felt like Dushyanth was the one whom Kesar hated and loved at the same time,.For Kesar, Dushyanth stood as his Vasanthba and also his Vasanthba's murderer at the mean time
As I have said long ago in the preleap discussion thread, he was the one to snatch away Gulaal from Vasanth and eventually gave her to Kesar.. though not intentionally,.. but that was for to sumup at the end..
...

Hope u all will enjoy discussing this topic.. Do come in and discuss and if needed healthy debates are also welcomed 😊... We shall do character analysis and the significance of those roles in the show and related events, on the basis of the activity of this thread and I will try to put it up on every Wednedays and Mondays.

roshni wow very nice idea yaar 🤗 n i m loving the collage which u have put 😃 dushyant was also one interesting character yaar, his life had been a long journey of him from being a self centered person to being a self-less human being n with many ups n downs, u know when i first used to watch dushy scenes, i use to feel like throwing something on him, i never felt that he loved gulaal truly coz he just went behind her beauty, her beauty was the thing which appealed him n which made him commit the biggest sin of his life, u know i m still not able to forgive him on that part that he went to such an extent that he killed his own brother but may be this was all planned by destiny warna how could have gulaal married kesar 😲, apart from all the things, i have noticed that kesar was more close to vasant always n dushyant also didnt have that love for kesar but when he killed vasant n when his whole being changed, his love for his brother increased n he took vasant's place in kesar's life, well v can atleast say that na, only if kesar had not heard duggu blurting out the truth, kesar would have definitely looked upto dushyant like he would have looked up to vasant 😊

one thing which makes me sad when i think about dushyant is that he never got the true happiness from his life, he was left with no family of his own, he never got married, never had kids, ab serial khatam hogaya warna kya pata kar hi leta woh shadi per abhi k liye toh hamen yehi pata hai na k he didnt get married 😆 i always think k all the people vl get busy in their lives n dushyant vl be left alone 😕 but apart from gulaal n kesar, dushyant also had a strong role yaar warna story would have never progressed 😊

hehe maine pata nahi kya kya likh diya na, but i wrote jo bhi i felt like 😃 thank u for such an interesting thread roshni 😃

One character that fascinated me apart from Kesar,Gulaal and Durgesh was Dushyant. My only grievance is that the character's full potential was never revealed. After the pre-leap he was relegated to the background which was an insult to both the character and the acor. The CVs had such a complicated character in Dushyant. There were still layers in his personality that could have been slowly peeled off after the leap.Yet they left this interesting character to lie in the doldrums and concentrated their energies on a dull, one dimensional character called Talli.OK so now that I have poured out my frustrations let me talk about the character.

When the character is introduced to us he does give off some negative vibes but I guess in front of the ideal man Vasant everyone would come off a little selfish and negative right...In some way that is what led to him becoming the person that he was at that time.Just imagine listening to your mother day and night talking about the injustice meted out to them in the family with respect to both name and money. On top of that you have to compete with the perfect man Vasant day in and day out.Even if he did not want to do that, his family including MB and PB would have never let him forgotten that he needed to prove himself. We saw this in the case of Kesar too na so who knows Dushyant might have gone through the same.

I do admit he was spoiled but maybe these reasons did contribute to the man that he turned out to be...and then he fell in love with the "dushman ki beti" the woman who changed his life. No,I don't think it was lust because he was not just won over by her looks it was her personality, her spirit, her liveliness that attracted him to her.He genuinely fell in love with her and wanted to make her his life partner.Who knows what kind of a person he would have turned out to be if Gulaal had become his wife.In my mind he would have become a better person but the opportunity never arose did it!Once again he had to lose Gulaal to his cousin Vasant.I think this is the point where he really started to hate Vasant.Until now his relationship with Vasant was a mixture of love and hate.He loved his broher but also hated him for being so perfect. His love for Gulaal turned into obsession and his character became darker.Yet even at this point it was not as if he was planning and plotting to kill his brother to get the girl.He had not yet turned completely dark.

Then the fateful accident took place and even here if you see he was first starting to help Vasant but then he hears Vasant murmur Gulaal's name and that just sets him off.His anger, frustration and obsession comes into foreground and his humanity is lost for a few moments as the devil in him takes over.Yet as soon as he does the deed you don't see the glee and maniacal laughter that one gets to see in a villian's face instead we see fear, hesitation and maybe just a bit of tiny regret.Even at the hospital he remains fearful because he is not a seasoned villian or a murderer.Sushant was an absolute treat to watch in these scenes.I guess after this point he completely turned over to the dark side or wait did he?Yes he did some very despicable things. He tried to force Gulaal into entering a DV with him,he plotted and planned with his fmily to make MB even more helpless, even went to the extent of trying to dishonour Gulaal but there was one tiny little ray of hope...his relationship with Kesar.Of course he had his own personal agenda but at times you could see that he truly loved his little brother. We also get to know this post leap when he talks to Kesar in the bus.It did show us that he still had a heart...He went about showing his love for Kesu the wrong way which in turn distanced him from Gulaal.

He started to change and no it was not a sudden thing...The change was gradual and completely believable.Yet I cannot help but wonder that did he really become the saint that he projected himself to be?...I don't think so...and I am glad because that makes his character real.Yes he did do his level best trying to make up for his sins but somewhere he also was vain about that very fact.He used to pride himself on his ability to sacrifice his happiness and desires for the family. That shows his selfishness not his selflessness. If only the CVs had explored that aspect. It did come out during the confession episode when he blurted this out in front of Kesar.Inspite of all this I do feel that Dushyant had turned his life around. He had taken on the responsibility of the entire family and you could see that MB needed it at that time because Kesar was yet a boy.Still for Dushyant it was once again a competition and this time it was even tougher cause he had to fight a memory,a dead man who had now almost gained the status of a God-a task which was almost next to impossible-but he did not back down and he continued to strive.

ok that's it from me.bahut kuch likh diya na.Sorry for the long essay guys...and Roshni thanks for this brilliant idea🤗I loved your post and that collage is just superb showing the different faces of this mesmerising character😊

looking forward to the other posts and discussion😃

Yes. Not only Dushyanth but many other characters too got suppressed in the post leap.. may be the CVs were pressurised to do so..Dushyanth was such a character, which needed to be explored much more than what they shown in the show.. hahaha and Talli and the baseless triangle was the most annoying thing in the whole story.. instead it had to be Dushyanth Gulaal Kesar triangle.. which was far more meaningful...whether they have admitted it openly or not,. the triangle was visible all throughout.

Its so true that no one is born with bad qualities, its all circumstance that makes one good or bad, and that is was what clearly depicted through Dushyanth

Exactly, he cant be.. because still there were the traces of the same love that he felt years back towards Gulaal.. the love was still there,.. and that was not his fault at all.. after all she was his first and only love in the whole of his life and he had repented for his sin through his life... he was not half the devtha as Vasanth, but a complete and a true human being and thats how his character becomes more relatable.

Kiran,I agree with you about Kesar and Dushyant dynamic.Even though Dushyant had no love for Kesar initially he did start to bond with Kesar after Vasant's death.Yes he had some selfish reasons for that but then with time I do feel that he really started to love the little guy in his own selfish way.Kesar was on his way to give Dushyant the same love and respect that he had for his Vasantbha. If only he hadn't heard the truth...sigh but then who knows even without the revelation he might have come up with reasons to feel animosity towards Dushyant (for eg the bond between Gulaal and Dushyant might have made him jealous)though not to this extreme extent. So many possibilities na.That's why this show is so brilliant😊

Roshni, nyan raavile korachu free aayirunnu...pinne porathu poyi.Thirichu verumblekyum raathri aayi.So Thank God I wrote down my essay in the morning itself😃I agree with you the Dushyant-Gulaal-Kesar triangle would have been so much more interesting to watch. We could have seen some of the hidden desires of Dushyant come out too if the CVs had given it a chance. They did show the triangle but it was only to show Kesar's jealousy.I would have loved to see Dushyant's thoughts about the whole thing but alas his character along with so many others were just pushed to the backgroundYet Dushyant remains one of the most interesting characters in the show for me and I so agree with Kiran...bechaara he never got his share of happiness na uss se pehle hi show khatam ho gaya.Hope he does get to have a family of his own someday😊

choory Roshni..Me sabse late yaar

ok now here goes my chotu rant about Dushy.
The character of Dushy so reminds me about Maharshi valmiki who turned from a sinner to a saint.Similarly Dushy chose the path of penance, self imposed exile from having a family of his own and devoted himself for the utmost good of the village and family.
I agree with the points of Mini and Roshni .Yes he was the one who actually snatched away Vasant from Gulaal and gave Kesar to her,in this process being instrumental and playing a pivotal role in almost all the turning points in the story...
Be it Vassy murder.the DV,his change in heart,Kesar's jealousy ,the panchayat ,the Talli dowry fiasco.
This has been the biggest complain to the CV's that they actually had the nutty brain to give importance to a most annoying character and actually mauled the characters of the powerfhouse performers and SS being the most imp one..For me too like others KGD triangle was more potent but sigh .The bandariya and her annoying battisi was the main focus of the show😡
Chiii Me coming back to Dushy ...For me Dushy was one epic character...which remained largely unexplored post leap..WORD mini...It would really have been grt if he would have been given more time

chalo abhi k liye itna hi..want to write lots of things..but will be back😳
