'I seek God within myself'
...says actor Samir Soni, who likes spending time with himself in silence
Ibelieve in a higher power, which can be referred to as the creator or a force that exists in nature. I'm a spiritual person and for me, spirituality is being in touch with myself and to reach a state of clarity of mind. Everybody is trying to end the conflict within themselves to attain happiness. Some try to find this through religion and some through spirituality. Everyone has their own method/path to reach this goal.
I don't believe in religion because according to me, religion is a means to an end, the end result being achieving a sense of completeness. When any religion says that theirs is the true faith and disregards another faith, I have a problem with that. I am a Hindu by birth but I don't practice it in particular. I was brought up in a liberal family. Rather than focussing on religion, I was taught to be a good human being. I like to learn and imbibe values from different religions. I have read the Bhagvad Gita, Qur'an and the Bible too. Whenever I feel down, I read a few passages from the Bible and it eases my worries. I also read a lot of books on spirituality like the Art of Living, and Deepak Chopra and Krishnamurthy's books.
I don't visit any holy shrines as I'm uncomfortable being in crowded places. I like to spend time with myself in silence. I seek God within myself rather than going to a religious shrine. I spend about an hour of silence daily, 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night. Doing this helps me gain clarity of thought and breaks the clutter of unnecessary thoughts.
I don't believe in superstitions, I believe discovering my destiny. Have faith in God and he will guide you on the journey of life. One doesn't need to follow religious rituals as a blanket rule for this. My advice for leading a happy, fulfilled life is to first identify what makes you happy, as happiness means different things to different people. People strive for happiness but are unable to figure what will give them true happiness. One doesn't need to jude his/her happiness by any barometer set by society.
