'Indian Idol 2 Karunya sings for 'Munnabhai' sequel
The singer credits filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra's sister for the break.
Though he did not bag the 'Indian Idol 2', title singer NC Karunya is going places. Incidentally, one of his biggest fans is producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra's sister Shelly who is based in Detroit, US. "I owe my playback debut to her," confesses Karunya who has been roped in by Chopra for a number in his forthcoming film ' Lage Raho Munnabhai' (sequel to 'Munnabhai MBBS').
Apparently, Shelly was upset after Karunya lost out to Sandeep Acharya in the show's final round. So when Chopra was in Detroit conceptualising the sequel, Shelly put in a word for him. Karunya says excitedly, "I can't believe that she is such a huge fan of mine. Because of her Vidhuji gave me an opportunity to sing."
Incidentally, when Karunya was in the US recently for his tour, he was invited by Shelly and even stayed at her house. "It was a month-long tour. I performed in several cities including New York, LA, Detroit, Dallas and Washington. I had a blast at Shelly's place. She was present for my performance in Detroit too. When I dedicated a song to her she came on stage to dance with me," he says.
Karunya reveals that his number 'Aane chaar aane' in 'Lage Raho...' is a background score filmed on Sanjay Dutt and was approved in the first take. "I completed the song in 15 minutes. I am a Sanjay Dutt fan and am looking forward to meeting him," he says.
Karunya is also gearing up for the release of his music album in September. "I am also getting other playback offers which should materialise soon," he adds.
