Tagore songs to reach all
By MIO Team

Indians have long forgotten Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and especially the young generation have overlooked him completely. Other than the national anthem, which was composed by Rabindranath Tagore, many people outside Bengal are not aware of his songs. To promote his songs to the other parts of India, director Ujjwal Chatterjee has planned to shoot a music video picturised on one of Rabindranath Tagore's songs, which will go on air. "It's high time people should know about the rich content of Tagore's songs. This can be possible only if we translate the songs into Hindi and promote them at the national level. Often people lift Tagore's tunes in Hindi and don't bother to give due credit," Ujjwal remarks. Rituparna Sengupta and Ashmit Patel will feature on this video based on Tagore's songs. Ten songs for the album have been translated into Hindi by Javed Akhtar. The album has been titled 'Selected Songs of Tagore' and has been rendered by Indrajit Dasgupta and the music arranged by Tabun.

there are a few other songs of Ravindranath Tagore people like us grew up with ( i mean non bengalis)

Ekla chalo re.....it was very often played on the ALL India Radia before the afternoon news.

We always had the following one at school...we have not forgotten him

Heaven of Freedom
by Rabindranath Tagore

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by Thee to ever-widening thought and action –

Into that heaven of freedom, my father, let my country awake.
