PCPNDT Act is as old as 1994. I havent watched the show, so I'm not sure where you got that info from.

The show was timed in a way to ensure that the bill is passed just after the female feoticide episode was aired.

My bad I got it wrong. It was a bill on child sexual abuse. And It was not my intention to say that the show resulted in the bill being passed- but it did get Parliment to vote on a bill, something that normally keeps getting pushed session after session.

yes, Aamir not only has magical powers that controls the Parliment which has 100s of members, but he also has the powers to decide STAR's programming schedule which is normally set at least a month in advance. 😕

I like his show, idgaf. It is a well-researched and well thought-out show. I concur that a TV show cannot bring a social revolution but it can make people a whole lot more aware and that is an important enough cause for me. Indian janta in general, is very passive and apathetic, we can wax idealistic all we want about commercialization of social reforms but it doesn't change the fact that this product is making people stand up and listen.

Take an example of child sexual abuse. It is taboo to talk about sex in any form in our society & it isn't like there haven't been initiatives to make people aware of the cause before. But, our society champions at deflection. Because Aamir Khan stands there and says 'hey this is important, TALK about it', people listen.

So, you know, idc what Aamir Khan's motives are. I care about the real participants on the show with their real stories and about the very real (and tragic) fact that nobody would care to listen to these people, if Aamir Khan wasn't standing there with them.

You expect Indian media to give real time information about the corruption level in India?Untill the bias of newspapers and media with the Government stops,I don't see that coming.

On the contrary Bills to be discussed in the Parliament and Assembly are known before hand along with the dates. Its not a big deal for Star to find those dates out and schedule their episodes around those. Atleast gives the impression that Parliamentarians saw SMJ and got their conscience back. Whereas Bills actually are whetted for a long time(over several sessions) before they are passed in the Parliament.

Chalo doesn't matter if Amir explains it or the production team.. as long as there is some progress in the way health sector works in the country I am not complaining.. The drug mafia should be dealt with stringent action.. hope it happens and SOON!!!!

SB, no one can show the real truths of the govt, you know... the "underworld", because people would go crazy and the lives of the ones that uncover the truth , their lives are bound to come to a full-stop. The political leaders and govt can literally PLAY with common man's life...so no one can really uncover any truth.. we might know what's happening, but no one knows EXACTLY what's going on in govt and in bureaucracy. SB, if you think the newspapers and media channels(new channels) are restricted and give out limited information because of political influence... isnt Satyamev Jayate an Indian television program? Cant the show be limited from showing the depth of corruption/social issues? Is Aamir immune from the govt and powerful political leaders?

If we see what's actually happening with - newspapers, there is some restriction to a certain level(insignificant level, differs from paper to paper.. but the editor of the newspaper can write anything he wants unless again there's bureacracy in it), but mostly, the newspapers do come up articles that DO shed light on present conditions, atleast "The Hindu" and "Times of India" do 😆 The brave writers and journalists who try to spill truths and succeed in doing so, are targetted and murdered. (like i said, raw truth is never posted on news)

Media/news channels --- They are... some are owned by political parties(sun network by DMK, Sakshi by YSRCongress etc) and some are national level news channels. News channels of India are turning pathetic day by day.. and yes, they are after TRP ratings, hence no one would show anything about social issues that would actually make you feel like you gained some knowledge after watching it for 1 hour atleast.

The media(newspaper and news channels) are weak because, one cannot file a petition against the press in India! To understand WHY, one has to go a little deeper - the Press Council of India is one of the powerful bodies of India, it's is literally protected by the constitution itself!! However, the PCI has this function of "regulating" itself...which it has to. why it fails to regulate is another different story and this is going WAAY off-topic/off-discussion 😳 😆

OK, coming back to our discussion, I know some wonderful magazines that really throw light on how the underworld and that really showcase the social, economic, political conditions of India. Now these magazines are whole new different category, some of them I dont know how write ttruths, atleast they make you think and analyse!

What Aamir is showing is great! because people would sit and watch, he's discussing about different intricate subjects in a very detailed understanble manner, people who have no habit of reading news and all will atleast gain an interest in social causes and improve their knowledge 😆 Some really serious and influenced youngsters mght as well start working for the welfare of the community, who knows? :) BUT BUT, it'll not change anything going on in the govt., at the most, the show will garnier remarks and reactions from the govt, and life goes on 😆 like the topic maker said, it wont cause any 'stir'.

OMG, I'm sorry for writing too much, hope I didnt say anything unnecessary and hope I made sense 😕

I think you got it wrong. Aamir Khan is not bringing a change in society. His show is bringing awareness.Not one person even GOD can change a society. Every individual person has to look in his heart and change themselves.

If the show help save 1 female child or change the thinking of one single family in India i think its a success.

After female foeticide episode a Doctor couple got their license suspended for life in Maharashtra. Couple of doctor licenses got suspended for 5-6 yrs. There were numerous raids on sonography centers. Well atleast people are becoming aware and complaining.

These are baby steps but everyone has to take it.

"Aamir's show received yet another honour as health minister Suresh Shetty announced that Generic medicines will be introduced in all government hospitals in Maharashtra from June."
