CHAPTER 13 THE BEGINNING
Many days have been passed since the celebration party. All these days were like a dream to abhay. On one hand his and pia's bond was growing stronger day by day and on the other hand success was ready to kiss his feet as the band has also passed the second round of auditions. Now only one more round left and they'll in the gala round of international level competition. Unlike partying after the victory of first round this time they were busy practicing for their performance in the third round which was scheduled to be happen tomorrow. They were more focused and more determined than ever as they knew it would not be easy. They will be judged very minutely as only 15 bands were to be selected for galas.
Abhay was at kabir's place engrossed in all these thoughts when kabir's voice broke his chain of thoughts.
Kabir (handing him the coffee mug)- hey, again thinking about tomorrow's performance?
Abhay (while sipping coffee)- yes, you know na, there is no room for mistakes in tomorrow's performance.
Kabir (assuring)- don't worry we all know it. btw, ruhi s coming in 4-5 days.
Abhay – that's a good news. Shona will be free now. She has helped us a lot.
Kabir – ya, that's right. Btw how far yours and pia's story has gone???
Abhay (smile appeared on his face thinking about pia)- it has gone too far…..that I can't even come back now (puts his hand on his shoulder) kabir my friend, I am insanely in love with her (closes his eyes trying to visualize pia's face). And I am sure will say the same if you ask her.
Kabir (confused)- will say…..means she has not said it yet??
Abhay (smiling sheepishly)- no, neither I have said it to her yet.
Kabir (surprised)- what!!! What type of love story is this where both of you are insanely in love with each other but none of you have said "I love you" until now!!!
Abhay (laughing)- it's a unique one. Actually I never felt the need to say it…she know me too well…she reads everything in my eyes n I do the same (closes his eyes once again remembering the beautiful moments spent with her)
Kabir- but still yaar most of the girls want their bf to say it at least three times a day. Look at angad, ruhi is not here then also he keeps reciting " I love you" over the phone….don't know how many times.
Abhay (laughing)-yeah, u r right..i am lucky to have pia in my life…she is different from other girls…but I do want to confess my love for her…it just that…I tried many times but I couldn't find the right words to express my feelings.
Kabir (mocking a shocked expression)- whoa!!! Pia is surely something….since when AR " the college hero" ran out of words in front of girls???
abhay (defending himself)- hey its not like that…it just…I want to make it special…just casually saying I love you will not make her understand the depth of my feelings…I want to say on special day…on a special date…everything arranged perfectly…you know….
Kabir (interrupting him between)- I got it…you r totally gone!!! So have you planned anything yet???
Abhay (sighs)- not yet…you know na …these days only one thing is there in my mind and ie to clear the third round. In fact I haven't met her properly since days except the short formal meetings when I go to pick up shona. We talk over phone but I am missing her terribly. I am just waiting for this to get over so that I could spend some quality time with her.
Kabir – ok…now just go take some rest cause tomorrow is our big test which will decide our future.
NEXT DAY, AUDITION VENUE
All the band members were already present on the venue waiting for abhay who has gone to pick up shona. After some time abhay arrives but alone, his head hung in disappointment.
Kabir (surprised to see him alone)-hey AR what took you so long? N where is shonali ???
Abhay didn't answer.
Kabir (shaking him by shoulders)- hey I asking to you…why shonali hasn't come??? N why are you looking so sad???
Abhay (gathering courage to speak)- she can't come kabir…she is down with high fever…she can't….everything is over…they won't allow us to perform with one member absent.
Angad (panicking)- no …this can't happen. This is the last day we need her she can't back off on the last minute.
Abhay (explaining)- its not her fault. She was in fever since yesterday evening. She thought she will recover soon but….i have seen her….she was looking very pale n weak ...forget about performance.
Danish (trying to reason)- but we can convince organizer to let us perform without her.
Kabir (sadly)- it would be useless…they are very particular about the rules..if they could have been convinced we didn't want shonali's help at the first place itself.
All of them set sat down in the lounge with sad faces. Just a few hours ago they were dreaming about winning this competition and now they can't even give audition for qualifying in the galas. Abhay was thinking about his challenge with chand. That scene was playing in his mind again and again. He let out a deep sigh and blurted out aloud- " now dad will laugh at me". But at the same time he felt a hand on his shoulder, "don't worry nobody will laugh at you". He looked up to see who said this n was surprised to see shonali standing there, all dressed up and ready to perform. Then his eyes shifted to pia, who was standing behind her, smiling.
Abhay (looking confusedly at pia then again to shona)- what are you doing here? You are supposed to take rest. (put a hand on her forehead)oh! You still have high fever.
Shona (holding his hand, smiling)- I have to come AR. How can I leave you all like this in midway. This is the last time you need me n I'll help you anyhow.
Abhay (nodding in disagreement)- shona…I appreciate your spirit but..you don't have to do this…look at yourself….i promised your mom….
Shona (cutting him between)- and I promised you that I will help you…I can manage don't worry…you all are here to take care na.
Abhay (looked at pia feeling confused, pia nodded in agreement with shona)- abhay I am here for her…she has come here after convincing mom n dad a lot. Let her sing. She is tough…she will manage.
Abhay agreed and all of them find their lost smiles back. They were relieved of their tension now and were waiting for their turn. And shona was resting, lying on sofa to save her energy for performance. But abhay was still sitting lost in thoughts. Pia came n sit beside him.
Pia (taking his hands in hers)- why are you still worried???
Abhay (tensed)- pia its gr8 that shona has come…but look at her condition…she is weak…her voice is shaky due to fever…even if she sing she can't give her best…n today we have to be perfect n make our performance flawless if want to get into the galas.
Pia (assuring him)- abhay judges have listened to you before…they know you all are talented….(hugged him)i am sure you will win….i know you.
Abhay (hugging her back)- you think so….(suddenly pulled apart)wait a minute…(smiles thinking something)
Pia (confused)- what??
Abhay (wide grin on his face)- we can't do anything about shona's fever but we can definitely do something about the song we selected for performance.
With that he called all the members and told them that they will sing some other song.
All members in unison- WHAT???
Abhay – yes…we will select that song which will suit shona's shaky voice. Guys I know we have practiced some other song but as per the situation we have to change our song. We can't make any mistake. Judges will not understand our problem…so we have to turn our weakness in our strength. We still have some three hours left for our turn we can practice till then…what say guys???
Again all in unison- ALRIGHT.
They all practiced the new song and finally there turn came. They all went inside to give their performance. They all were feeling like school going kids who are entering the exam hall. They took their positions. Abhay – "this song is dedicated to all my friends without whom I would not be able to give this performance". they started-

The music n notes of the song were such that they covered up shona's shaky voice in fact it added to effect of song. But judges were smart enough and caught them.
Enrique- if I am not wrong…you are not feeling well young lady….right!!
Shona (nervously)- yes, I have high fever.
Enrique – I see…that's why you are low on energy n your voice is shaky.
Abhay (understood that there is no point of hiding anything)– yes sir, in fact that's why we changed the song at last moment.
J LO (smiling)- I must say…you are smart…being a star one often faces such type of problems during the stage shows so one should know how to handle them.
They came out after listening all the comments. They would be getting the result after two days but they could feel that judges were impressed by them.
AFTER TWO DAYS, KABIR'S PLACE
All were there at kabir house, sitting nervously as today they would receive the news that whether they are selected for galas or not. All were waiting for the phone call from organizers. After waiting like one hour which seemed like a year phone ranged and all become more nervous than ever. Kabir took the phone and after sometime cut the call saying "ok thank u". he showed no excitement no expression on his face. All were waiting for him to speak finally abhay lost his patience and hold his collar " tell me what they said?" kabir-" we are selected". As soon as he said those words all shouted with excitement. "yay…yippee…we did it…we are in the top 15". They decided to celebrate it by partying till late night. Abhay went to shona, who was recovered now completely, for thanking her once again.
Abhay (hugging her)- thanks its become possible because of you. (pulling her cheeks)you know what…. I am very happy today…you can demand anything from me.
Shona – if you want to give me something…then…can I have your guitar… signed by you.
Abhay- why this?? I will gift you new one.
Shona – because ruhi di will be back soon and now I wont be a part of your band anymore…I enjoyed a lot during these days…I want a souvenir of it….i realized that I also want to pursue my career in music. so it'll be my inspiration…and not to miss that you will soon be a big star now so I'll be the first girl to get your autographed guitar.
Abhay (smiling)- fine…I will give you that. And if you want you can join this band only after finishing your studies. And you are coming to the party this time…no excuses…I will convince your mom.
All excited shona went to share happiness with others and abhay turned towards pia only to find that she was listening all their convo. She loved the bonding between abhay n shona.
Pia (holding his both hands)- congrats abhay, your victory today has marked the beginning of your new journey. It's the beginning of your bright future. And …thanks.
Abhay – thanks…for what???
Pia – for everything you just said to shona.
Abhay (smiling, coming closer)- I want to say something to you too.
Pia –go on..i am listening.
Abhay (whispering in her ear seductively, giving her goose bumps)- not here…tomorrow…some special place…just you and me…I will pick you at 8 pm.
Pia (blushing, burring her head in his chest)- hmm...i will be waiting for you.
