India€™s crooning crusaders can take a long €˜wind€™ break their musical compositions. And take a bow while our Bollywood biggies take charge of the microphone. Amitabh Bachchan started the trend when he cut an entire music album titled €˜Aby Baby€™, the songs were an immediate rage. And an AB song was almost mandatory in his films.
Aati kya khandala became a chart-buster with Aamir€™s boyish baritone. He€™s also added his musical touch to €˜Rang De Basanti€™.
Sanjay Dutt lent his heavy-metal vocals in €˜Kaante€™, €˜Musafir€™, and a €˜Zinda€™ track that€™s scorching the musical countdowns.
Abhishek Bachchan€™s Right Here Right Now from €˜Bluff Master€™ has women swooning all over. Even hunky John Abraham has added to this symphony with his jagged-edge voice. Sometime ago, Viveik Oberoi sung for €˜Deewana Huye Pagal€™ and Boman Irani lend his boombox for €˜Home Delivery€™. Even the mighty SRK did a pop-number for €˜Josh€™ while the gorgeous Kareena went melodious for Govind Nihlani€™s, €˜Dev€™. The crowner was evergreen Dev Anand who recently rapped to a song in his €˜Mr. Prime Minister€™, even written and composed by him.
And now another actor joins the musical €˜band€™wagon. It€™s powerhouse performer, Paresh Rawal. In Naseeruddin€™s directorial debut - €˜Yun Hota Toh Kaisa Hota?€™ he€™s lending his voice to a special song. How come? €œNaseer just told me to do it, I did it. There was no question about it. It fits into the character I€™m playing€ he says.
In the 1930s and 40s actors used to sing their own songs. Film stars like Kundan Lal Sehgal, Suraiya and Noorjehan were singing sensations, but because of lack of technical expertise the concept of playback singing and lip-syncing was unexplored. €œThat€™s absolutely true, in today€™s day and age there are so many advanced sound equipments and finer technicalities that can make your voice sound good, that non-singers like me don€™t feel scared singing for our own roles in films,€ says Paresh.
