Well, I'm relieved that I was not asked to put whitener. In others shows, the actors put a little whitener to make themselves look old. I don't think it's necessary. It's the body language and dialogue delivery that make an actor look his age on screen. I have been able to do that convincingly. In fact, this has been like an inspiration to all the other actors as so many are following suit these days and avoiding the whitener.
Were you happy when the storyline changed and you were made to play dad?
I guess the storyline had to change. It's a daily and how long was it supposed to drag? There has to be some novelty in it. That was brought about with the change in storyline. The audience has accepted it. In spite of the changes, today, Kumkum is the same love story.
You are also an anchor. What do you enjoy the most — acting or anchoring?
Both are completely different from each another. Each belongs to a separate genre. But anchoring is a lot more tough. Here you are not playing a particular character. In fact, you have to be yourself. You also have very limited time to make a positive impression on the minds of the audience sitting in front of you. It's a little unnerving at times.
Which is the most challenging show you have done till date?
It has to be Khulja Sim Sim. I replaced Aman Verma in the second season. The first season was a hit and Aman was a popular anchor. It was scary to step into his shoes. I knew I didn't have a way out. I had to do better than that because I knew I would not get another chance. I was overjoyed when the show did really well.
Are you planning to give Bollywood a shot?
It's great to do television. As an actor, I would love to do films. But it's all about getting the right opportunity. I don't know when that day will come. There are so many telly actors who have moved to films after their popularity increased on TV. But they could not make it. I don't want that to happen to me. It's a little difficult because I'm not a star son. But I'm happy with whatever I'm doing today. I think I'm the only actor to have got the chance to do so many serials and shows.
Why are you are doing only one show?
I got married recently and wanted to give some time to my wife. So there was a gap in between. But now, I'm also doing a show. I don't have enough time in hand to do many shows simultaneously. I've been so busy from day one that I have not yet got a chance to work with my brother Qaeed who is a director.
