Rose_Petal love your comments…and I can only agree with you. 😃

LTL was a great show…but the show could have been greater if some great character was given more deep.

Baji…giving him and Dutta more back story and given Baji some feelings of guilt, because he was the reasons Dutta when on the dark road.

Naku….why did they not go deeper in to her character. Been told by your own mom, your whole life, that who you are is not good for yourself…lie and hiding is the right way to go….Naku is like some sees Eve…..The women with the red forbidden apple.

They could have given Naku more depth…at times Naku was boring to me or maybe it is because Mahi cannot carry a scene alone. (Sorry Mahi fans)

LTL was a high quality show, with some great actors and amazing performances…but the fact is that it was Mishal as Dutta who gave the show success…it was Dutta's relationship with every actor that gave the other actor depth. The show would have been even more fantastic, if every character had also been given some more depth.

yup i really belive some charecter lose their effect on story..its becoz too many track were going on same time ...it must be difficult for writer to pull and bind all of them togeher..

Baji'giving him and Dutta more back story and given Baji some feelings of guilt, because he was the reasons Dutta when on the dark road.

bajis charecter was really stong though out show ...but you baji only seems working for dutta ,,,helping him ...i wanted to see him in own life he was just struct in duttas life problem..but they share amzing bond...👏👏

Naku'.why did they not go deeper in to her character. Been told by your own mom, your whole life, that who you are is not good for yourself'lie and hiding is the right way to go'.Naku is like some sees Eve'..The women with the red forbidden apple.

very well said she was eve,,,but stangly dutta was not adam ...he was beast who where seeking for love but still scare to accept it...😳

They could have given Naku more depth'at times Naku was boring to me or maybe it is because Mahi cannot carry a scene alone. (Sorry Mahi fans)

its becoz form beganing her charecter was depend upon someone...like babi ...then dutta ...and after FR she supported by baji...her free dom of getting thing the way she want was really weak...it hard to carry chareter when it is surounded by such stong influence...in my drama class my teacher teach me its hard to keep charecter form losing is real ensence..that why wjen you enter some new chareacters in storygive them some time to settle n syable the story...unless they start overpowering story...its stange i remember all this ...but i like n love mahi as naku...no one can replace her..

yup the stong aura arround dutta overower ...there too mant factor responcible for this story plot..actor himself...charecter becoming centre of evry activity..who can blame mishal for such powerful performance😆😆 the only charectr i think remain same n unaffect was kala...

Ani.. thank you for a fantastic, character sketch of Babi... your detailing of her strengths and weaknesses , has rendered her alive before me yet again.. and I actually find it difficult to make additions to her persona.
Now in terms of LTL casting, her role was lesser when compared to the largeness of Dutta, Baji, Nakusha , and last but not the least Kala. So to me she would be cast in the bracket of important but not key roles. However , in the general system of human relationships the role of a mother is revered and set ,and in many universal faiths, a mother is second to god. Thus, Babi being Nakusha's mother is expected to be her influencer, her builder, and her motivator. As the story , progresses we do snippets of these.. yes she is not an invisible mother ,but very much there in her daughters life!
Babi's placement in society is that of a woman who works to bring bread at the table, and is not confined to the home environment alone. She is what I call a worker- mother, who also grapples with issues of the past where her first daughter, is taken advantage of due to her becoming looks. Babi also influences her daughter to folllow suit as well, in terms of being employed, but she also burdens Nakusha with her own ineptness at being a good mother.. Nakusha ,has no other option but to apply soot on her face to spare her Aye the truama of history repeating .
Thus Naku, lives a lie, a serious lie of false identity, and her mother Babi misuses the privelege and power of mother hood, and all this under the name of protecting her child. Nakusha , then when the situation of revealing an important truth about herself to the man she loves, to lies with great panache.
I then recall Naku's words "meri aye bolte hai"... and I muse "tu bhi apne Aye ke theran jhoot bolte hai.. Nakusha you are a liar! and your mother, impressed upon you that it's ok to lie .. in order to save a situation from getting bad to worse! but a lie is a lie !no matter how you justify it... Nakusha did you assume a false identity .. yes or no??... surely there were other ways.. OK the policeman was a B#. but you could have reported him.. and sought help from women's support groups...
I do see Babi as the busy, tired and at times guilty woman, who may be an employed mother but who in the main, never does neglect or appear unattached to her children.
Babi ,appears to a humble example of a woman who shall we say invests in her children..she dosen't invest in the Market, but invests in the lives of her children Nakusha and Sethji... this then is the deciding factor of her life.. so much so that being made a sucker by Ganapat does not effect her much.. as the drunken waste of space of a second husband has fathered her only son..so she ticks away...
sorry Ani... aur kiya bolon...your post in itself was soo great that ... made me think more so I have penned my thoughts... with much love.. xxx .. hammie

Sana...it must be difficult for writer to pull and bind all of them together.

I agree with you Sana...😊... My sister is a writer herself so I know how difficult it is to write for many characters. To give the chacaters depth, story and let the character grow.

That is also why I feel, that the writers do not get the respect and recognition they deserve.

Ivy love your question...😊...I voted both in your pull.

Both made mistakes and made some bad choices and both love there kids very much. But AS took her husband's killers son in to her home...she raised 4 kids all by herself...she was also like a mother to Baji. Two damaging mistakes Babi did, was getting marriage to someone like Ganpat or say to her daughter that her color is a curse.
I think for me...AS would be the winner...because of her simple and loving heart. 😊

Mirage123...thank you. 😊

Hammie thanks...😃...again I loved your comment. 😃

The fun about choosing a new character every week is, that you get to stand in there shoes and see the character from inside out.

I also agree with you on the part that a lie is a lie...and they chose to keep lying...even though there was no danger in Dutta's house...and lying to a very simple and clean hearted man (Dutta)...was not ok...that was a very selfish act.

Hi Ani 🤗

me back after a break 😆 trust me it was no fun that break ...but anyway missed all the kala fun ...and come back to BABI! me too did watch from beginning nor have I really seen much of her scenes ...so not exactly the person to be commenting on a character I know very little about but lets go for what i do know...

Babi is a very strong woman...who has been through a lot...but never given up. She is very loved... by her second husband and her kids.Because of her first born daughter's wrong choice and disappearing... she choose to put black color on her second daughters face.

I would like to ask you all...was it the right thing to do? Would you have done the same thing in her situation?

Alright so my take on this question. No I don't think it was the right thing to do but i believe it to be more of a reaction to the first daughter's doing. It was like a knee jerk reaction ...one was beautiful and went the wrong way so she decided to make the other the opposite believing it to be the best thing for her...but she failed to see what the repercussions of her actions would be...surely she wanted a good life for her second daughter but she had not once thought how she would have to live with bullying and more over one day i am sure she intended to marry her off ...but what was she gonna do then? say to the possible groom oh btw my daughter is not really black 😆😕 anyway no decision made in haste would be a good one... NO I WOULD NEVER...I don't think i would've even thought of that as a way to fix things...lol ...

But as a mother...
Make your daughter believe that her true color is a curse...make your child hide who she really is...you can say it is to keep your daughter safe...but it could also be to make your job as a mom easier.
I am personally against it. I would never ask my daughter to do something like this...so I feel more relax and in peace. Like I would never make my child live my dreams.

AGREED! 👍🏼

What I loved about Babi was the way she handled Morey...it is true what people say...A mother would do anything for her child.

Yes that was one thing i did get from her character...maybe she was a little crazy in things she thought of and did 😆 but she was standing by her daughter...willing to fight for her saftey...so that much i applaud surely

Another think I never understood...why Babi lived with Ganpat...yes there was a man in the house...but where was he when he was needed?

Ye even I don't understand him ...to be honest he was a bit useless the character he was...only helped in bringing our pair together...for had he not committed that crime then the domino effects wouldn't have happened..

I liked Babi's character a lot in the beginning and her relationship with her kids...later in the show her crying became too much to watch.
Her character was overpowered by PN more importantly DSP...the way he was and handled things...his own family and all of patil wadi went by it so babi had nothing more to do then cry at the fate of the way things happened...

Babi also became a little selfish...because she did not understand Dutta and his love for Naku...maybe she never really forgave Dutta...she also had a problem with trusting men...she forgot that lie do not keep staying hidden...she forgot that Baba always had taken care of her and her family...she kind of lost her faith.
Babi's relationship with Dutta was interesting...she never accepted him as her son in law...she only saw him as Dutta Bhau...and was it not for Naku falling deeply in love with Dutta...Babi would have been against it...and that is understandable.
Yes, I too feel that her reason for letting things sort of be was because she knew her daughters love for a man that was so estranged ...but she failed to understand it ...more so because what Naku knew of Dutta... Babi did not. Her screen space with him has showed him to be the dominant one ...more powerful one and also the most dangerous one...and her character only sees that side of him that would make no sense to anyone unless they got to know him...so maybe that is why she may have failed to see what Naku saw and understood of the man..but she i think somewhere did trust & respect her daughter's thoughts hence the letting go of her own...
In the end I would like to say...the writers never really developed Babi's character...instead her character got more weak...pessimist and was crying all the time.
In few words that describe Babi is...strong...independed... mom... experience...good...loving...young and a little childish heart.
I agree...it needed more from her than just crying and standing helpless...
anyway Ani wonderful post...love how u have presented her character...great work!

Hey ani, once again a wonderful write up!

To, me the decision of hiding naku's true identity behind an ugly mask has always been an example of "cruelty", untill I got a chance to conduct a literacy workshop in the slum areas (an initiative by our college, and participation was mandatory). It was shocking to find that mothers of young girls lock (sometimes even forcefully)their daughters in the home, (with no proper ventilation), for the whole day while they are at work, when asked why, they replied it's the only option for them to protect their daughters from evil eyes. It was then I realized that babi or many women like babi do have a point, a reason which might be valid in the circumstance in which they are forced to live, and I with my sheltered life style don't have the right to have a judgmental approach about it.

But yes, later when she convinced naku to keep hiding her face from her husband until they re marry is certainly unacceptable, as a mother may be you have a right to make decisions about your child's life, but even "being a mother" doesn't provides you with the facility to influence your child's marital life decisions. I don't know, quite possible it's bcoz of my irritation towards mahle clan, I'm assuming, but I felt that later she became so habitual of the comfort which naku's "ugly mask" brought to her, that she kind of preferred delay in the FR, not really wanting to stand up and face the consequences. And also, her lack of trust in dutta, was unjustifiable to me, you can go to baaji and share your problems, regarding this soot issue, but not with that man, who saved your family, provided them shelter and livelihood, and choose to love and respect your daughter's golden heart, instead of pondering about her ugly face! Wow! It was like throughout her life she justified her "soot putting" gesture blaming the men community and it was hard for her to accept that there lives a man completely opposite to her "definition of man"!!. No mother will advise her daughter to start her marriage with a lie, babi did, infact to an extent forced, for me it's wrong and will ever remain unjustifiable. Yet, I can't over look the fact that how fierce she became when it comes to protecting her children, or how, with not even modest lifestyle, she always made sure that her children gets a high moral upbringing.

As far as development of her charcter is concerned, the whole first month of the show was dedicated to babi and her struggle to protect her daughter, but once they entered dutta's domain she really hadn't much to do, but since she had a lion's share in terms of screen space for the initial one month of the show, may be Cvs found it little "out of the way" to cut short her screen space all of a sudden, and hence prescribed unnecessary "rona dhona" for her which kind to harmed her character.

The moment patil clan was introduced MR, VR, AG kind of dominated the show, even Swati ji, with her pleasant aura gave tight competition to her. Claearly the audience preferred them more !

Daya and Aishwish...thank you. 😊

Love reading your detail comments. 😃
I can read, that we all agree on Babi asking "forcing" Naku not to tell the true to Dutta was not right.
If you think about it...it does not make sence. 🤔

Everyone could see and knew, how much Dutta loved and cared for Naku - as black...so why did Babi think that Dutta could not be trusted to tell the true about Naku's true color......I think it was also about Babi being afraid that something would go wrong...she became selfish and wanted to control the situation without thinking about the consequences of what would happen, when the true will come out.

I agree with you both that after they came to PN...the story change and Dutta overpowered all other characters...and I am so happy that he did. 😃
