now this goes beyond my comprehention...to kill or even harass because two consenting adults have fallen in love with each other and decided to get married...in this case there is no law against such a thing...yet the law enforcement agencies act as if there wa...and in some cases supports such killings...in other cases where it is a crime...it turns a blind eye...for me it was a hard hitting epi like the others...a true issue it most defintely is...not any less than the rest have been for me...i think it shows to what extent the damage goes...the fight to presserve customs and traditions has become brutal and inhumane in these cases...

Very well written post even i agree yesterdays episode has touched the most sensitive cord which was not being handled properly. For the sake of honour, status, caste these crimes where overshadowed by the society. If the law is not against marrying of two adults who r in love than nobody has the right to kill or harass them. The worst part i felt was when a couple mentioned they were harassed by police. We r staying in such a society which talks of modernisation and change but is con to any change either it could be in name of preserving customs , traditions and so on.Here u can select a prime minister or chief minister but for selection of ur life partner u have to look at others.Marriage is not only a union of two peoples but it should be union of two alike understanding peoples and their souls.

manupriya77 ...very well written on your part too...i felt lost and confused watching the show...not because it was lacking anything...but because i just couldn't grasp that choosing the person you love and will eventually marry was looked down upon...and considered such a horrible thing to do...but i understood what the issue was towards the end when teh Delhi professor that has done extensive research on the particular group of Kaps...he said that it was a way to keep people under their control...to submit...if people go against this...then the elders of these communities will have no power...and he also mentioned that traditions need to be updated to reflect the times we live in...and even be left in the past...

There is another side to honor killings. In most cases these are ways to keep the girls in the family subjugated to the male diktat. Another form of bias against women.

Like I mentioned in another post of mine, it is considered a matter of prestige only by the Girl's family. The families of the boy in question usually do not initiate retaliatory action.

But there were two very heinous crimes that were covered on other reality shows that I want to point out. In one case a girl from an Urban, industrialist family, poisons all her family family members, because she had fallen in love with someone and she was afraid that her family would kill her if they came to know about it. Her brother had already been instrumental in killing his wife's younger sister for the crime of marrying someone she loved.

The other case was from a rural family. Two girls, again in love with two men, whom they knew their parents would object to. The girls decided to mix sedatives in the food of their family and then proceeded to behead every member of the family just so that they themselves would not be persecuted for the crime of falling in love.

Falling in Love in India is still a dangerous activity seems like.

Chitrashi ...omg those cases are chilling...there are layers upon layers...and in every direction it seems...everyone turning in to criminals ...and the "offence" is such a simple thing...falling in love...if its illegal let the law of the land dictate that...and then there are even human rights that we all have just because we are born humans...and sometimes laws don't support those even...in those cases we stand up for what is right...but if its not then live an let live...if its not acceptible to the eyes of peoples Gods then also let it be him that does the judging...

Chitrashi after reading ur post i am shocked what is happening but if we go to the deep cause of all these incidents only one thing comes in mind that when youths don't have faith in their own parents or lack of communication is there or if parents a dictators only ,such kind of horrible incidents take place.I don't advocate these incidents but i think precuation is better than cure .According present scenrion parents will have to be friendly with their kids so that all matters can be discussed and even parents can guide(not forcefully) their children in all matters including love marriage also.
