I am not after him why he's paid a certain fees. See it's an hour and a half long show. And longest one on TV right now. He must touch upon all sides of an issue and not just focus on sob stories.

Like today's episode was a more balanced and researched one compared to past episodes especially 2 and 3!

I acknowledge Aamir's good efforts, but I say he could have done better considering the resources he had!

We are not pulling down Aamir here. And I guess I was too disappointed after episode 3.

Sridevi might have meant the world to Harish but it does not justify her presence by any means. She was unnecessary inclusion to SMJ. Other victims might have also had their own idols, why weren't their idols invited? There is no excuse for including celebs in a show like this.

The boy's side must be examined in the sense that boys should have been interviewed as to what makes them ask for dowry! Like some males admitted on SMJ page on FB that they are ridiculed in case they don't ask for dowry and bring a girl for free. Or some people think the boy must have some ''defect' this is why he married for ''free''. It is this mindset which should have been at least touched upon the show. You can argue as much as you want to, but whenever discussion is involved then all sides must be considered. It is not just about psychology but even social reasons!

we love to criticise and don't like to appreciate anyone, especially if they are first ones to do something. Let's stop putting each episode under the microscope, nothing can be perfect in all senses and Amir can't please every viewer, nor can any other show.

so what if not all angles are covered, no show can ever do that, someone or the other is going to find something lacking somewhere. At least it is better than shows with slapstick humour that is so trashy, and pseudo-celebs dancing and reality shows that are scripted and full of foul language.
Great Work Amir, at least someone is trying to highlight something that is wrong almost everywhere, so let the guy do his work.

I made this thread only after disappointing episode 3. And slightly disappointing elements in episode 2. That is it. Otherwise I am not pulling it down. I have been posting in all appreciation threads and also posting in threads about real life impact of this show.

It is not about being perfect. It's about being balanced. Especially if one has chosen such a lengthy duration for each episode - 1.5 hours. In context of episode 3 the discussion was not proper. So I made this thread. Episode 4 was fabulous and as well covered as possible.

Yes it is better than celebrity chat shows, quiz shows, saas bahu stuff and it is great that a celeb used his popularity and fame in right manner by doing a show like Satyamev Jayate - I acknowledge that, but all I wanted t say was that the show had lot of potential and we should have more reasons to praise it than just the fact that a star did a sensible show!

I deliberately came to this thread due to ongoing anti-SJ propaganda by some doctors against Satyamev Jayate.

From the beginning if there's one problem I had with this show was that it NEVER touched upon CAUSES of problems!😕

It generated a furore from some men and some doctors case of female foeticide episode, certain noise from exploited men in dowry episode. But it reached to epic proportions in case of episode 4! And it had to!

I noticed this article by a doctor only in support of SJ, but she highlighted some causes of problems in medical profession - http://www.youthkiawaaz.com/2012/05/satyamev-jayate-episode-4-healthcare/

So did one hate letter on anti-SJ doctor's page on Facebook, which talked about interference of politicians, failure of government to allocate sufficient budget for healthcare, doctors being underpaid etc.

I feel if Aamir's show had highlighted what drives doctors to corruption, then such a backlash would not be there! In Asar also, the angry doctor from anti-SJ brigade went on about pressures they face and how the doctors alone were not to be blamed. If AK's show had shown even a little bit of doctors' constraints in their episode, then it would have been fair, balanced.

Problems of healthcare in India are far more complex. Pressure of WHO, pressure from pharma companies on doctors, their attempts to influence government, their own corrupt practices (like conducting trials on poor people without even informing them or taking their consent) etc.Due to political interference there is problem in admissions, phenomenon of paid seats in private colleges etc. Even in policy-making, there is always a tussle whether expenditure on health would be done by Centre or State!🤢

And generic vs branded medicines have their own whole debate for which one whole episode can be made.

The problem with AK's show is that he tries to put a little bit of everything in the episode - but in everything also, he misses most important thing - CAUSE! Discussing root causes even briefly shows a balanced picture. Only going on about problem, its spread, its effects and solutions is not right.

And worst thing are his questions in end. The issue of the episode was medical malpractices. But question became about generic medicines and whole mudslinging matches started online about generic vs branded debate. His episode of Asar also seemed to focus more on medicines than other malpractices of doctors! This is jumbled up and causes unnecessary confusion and controversy.

Actions of people or government are also foolish. To show we are serious about female foeticide, let's suspend all doctors' licenses!🤢 Even if there are no doctors, the butcher in-laws, parents would find other ways to kill a girl or desert her! Knee jerk reactions against doctors due to first episode also fuelled further hatred among doctors for this show. When I read news about ultrasound clinics closing down in Jaipur as mass protest against government's action I could sense something would be coming from docs against this show soon!😆 It happened as episode 4 was the last straw!

Satyamev Jayate is a noble effort, it has its heart in the right place, but some of its flaws, it has to correct! Or else only more backlash will follow from those this show exposes!

Most crucial thing which Satyamev Jayate must have taken care of is choice of words.

Aamir only JOKED in episode 4 ki main apna ilaaj India mein nahi karwaunga. And he said this after he felt doctors would be offended by whatever they are showing on this show! But doctors twisted it, took it wrongly saying he's implying foreign docs are better or he is hypocrite who wants treatment abroad but is speaking about problems in India!

Then he said some line - ''kya bimaari ho gayi iss desh ke doctors ko''. He should have said - ''Kya bimaari ho gayi hai iss desh ke KUCH doctors ko''! His original statement made all doctors feel that he had branded their whole community corrupt!

When you're on national television, talking sensitive or volatile issues, then you must be careful about the words you are using!

And silly partners of the show, Star News took it to another level by making a program on SJ with title - ''Doctor ya kasaai?'' [Doctor or Butcher?] 😵

These are things which offended the fraternity and caused such backlash, along with lack of discussion on root causes of problems in healthcare.

Aamir did try to balance by showing positive examples of doctors doing good work. But the minor mistakes took precedence in haters' minds.

I am not against Aamir for what he showed on SJ. But I feel he could have avoided unnecessary hate campaigns by being a little more careful!

Hi to one and all!

@Annika I agree with you somewhere but here the battle is totally different!

If it wasn't for Aamir who else had the audacity to come up with such issues. Totally fair what you've felt but buddy how many of us or government for that matter thought about it?

Sitting here and criticizing is far too easy, 'm not all trying to offend you but here we aren't humane enough to wrong him. We would have had a choice if we were doing, if nothing but 3 and half quarters what he's done.

Seeing your post sensibily I understand your viewpoint but think once- the issues that we think he's ignoring must be for a reason. He belong to and is an Aam Janta when its about issues concerning wrong-doings of government of India, ain't it?
He lives in a society and there are some limitations with him too.

Now when you talk about some issues untouched then you're welcome with open arms on SJ's official facebook page- Jot down your thoughts and views they'd be considered. It'd be a plus for SJ. That is what Aamir wants- Voice of Common Populace.

I would emphasize again what Aamir is doing now should have been our call few years back! Did, we-are-the-youth, bragging good-for-nothing people put forward their views? NO!
It is easy rebuking somebody's effort but impossible to stand the grounds where s/he stands.

I would appreciate your post, though. It was some great constructive criticism away from all those good-for-nothing posts talking about his salary for the show or his personal life.

I understand what your saying, but its only a one hour show and he can't show everything. He's doing better than most people who are showing nothing.
I think for the amount of time he is slotted for his show, he's giving a concentrated and quality episode informative to the audience without spending over 3 hours on that one topic.

I agree...

Its a TV show which is based on facts so it should be dealt by some one with a critical mind not some one with an emotional one...like Jeremy Paxman who shoots out topic specific and prompt questions. This is what AK needs to do rather than getting too involved with victims he needs to get involved with the situations, illustrate possible causes and demonstrate some solutions or a better way to deal and may be then bring in a few real life example for both sides.

another question that comes to mind is...is this show staged? it seems like it...

This show wont work for critical thinkers...AK needs to be a bit more constructive, critical and productive...and please in Gods name lessen with the crying...I totally sympathies with the victims and my heart goes out to them but lets be a bit more strong-willed and explore the topic more than the individuals???

lastly both men and women possess positive and negative personalities...if any topic raised involves men or women than i believe its only fair if both genders are disclosed in positive and negative way to prevent gender biased.
