What is Payal's PURPOSE in life? Feminist POV

Seriously, I have utmost respect for stay at home wives and moms and the work they do. I am not trying to say that Payal has to go out and work to find some meaning. But what the hell is her purpose?

From the beginning of the show when she wanted to get married to the middle when all she did was cook and wash (yes, work) to now when all she does is cringe worthy romance with a backbone-less Akash...her life looks like a recipe for disaster and doom. What is it she finds value in? We are never shown what she is about. All Deepali gets is a few lines about Akash coming home on time.

How long will a girl last like that before she gets bored out of her mind or lose to depression? She is a trophy wife who is treated like dirt by Mami. That's not much of a trophy wife either, forget working wife or social cause wife or anything else. There has to be more to life than wanting to find out worth through being married and spending your life bringing tea and medicines to those who want it. No, I am not taking down stay at home women. I know plenty of very educated ones who find meaning in different things and make their choices.
I know many stay at home wives who fulfill life through caring for their families, but that's not exactly what Payal does. She isn't looking out for Khushi and the Shyam senario or caring for her ill father and family living on pension or contributing anything (not monetary) to the Raizada household. It is basically a shallow, ignored character. I really feel bad that Deepali is not getting any attention, she's a decent actress getting no scope. No girl is lacking in complete depth. There is more to a Payal than making tea. Take her relationship with Arnav for example, there was to much potential there. Or her relationship with the other ignored character, Mamaji. That could be beautiful and friendly against Mami's craziness. Payal has only played the tortured bahu since the wedding. IPKKND is not saas bahu as the makers themselves said.

yea i agree. i mean seriously. i'm kinda getting tired of her whispered
"Akashji... have you eaten?" i mean literally that's all her dialogue is. I really have never seen her take interest in the whole khushi and shyam fiasco. it's like it has been completly erased from her brain! cmon woman! grow a backbone!
oh and don't forget the most famous line of
"Saasuma..."
or should i say
"Maaji" now.

Guys we shouldn't offend anyone here. Deepali and Akshay are doing awesome. We never notice them because we are in love with Arnav and Khushi. I know she is not being shown much in the show but that is because the show is focusing on Arnav and Khushi meeting eachother after long time. We shooildn't offend any actor or actress. BTW Maamaji is not even in the show more thN half the time. Then he just popps out of no where.

In daily soaps, dere r some characters who r always sidelined knowingly or unknowingly by da cvs.Payal's character is one of dem.I always used 2 feel bad 4 deepali.since da beginning, her character has never been given any importance.she always used 2 get simple costumes 2 wear wid hardly any makeup on her face.i always used 2 wonder,if khushi wants 2 work 4 her self respect den why aren't cv's showing payal going 2 work?
After marriage, she is getting beautiful sarees 2 wear and loads of makeup but still dat's not enough.her character is still not developed properly.all she does is taking care of akash.if it goes on like dis,i guess very soon we will get 2 know da news of deepali leaving da show

I guess this is what happens when the makers were never even interested in continuing a certain character (in our case- Payal). Isn't that what one of the CV's or director said in an interview? They didn't know what to do with Payal. That sounded so sad the first time I heard it.

They could, however, rectify their mistake with her character by first showing her helping Khushi with Shyam's lecherous advances and beguilement. After that, maybe they could show her trying to support the Gupta household with Khushi?

The CV's could do so many things with her character seeing as she was the one Khushi got married to Arnav for, she's the one Khushi is willing to do anything for. They really ought to place more importance on her especially when she finds out why ArHi got married. As for now, she's just there. Not useful or anything :/

Awesome post!

I understand your point of view but there are many couples who decide to have a stay at home parent. Sure they do not have kids but she is wife who has the responsibility of not just her husband, but her in-laws at home. She does not have to go out and find a job to feel some sort of purpose in life. Yes, today's girls when they study so much they want to go out but to be fair that is not the case for all women. Some choose to be home makers especially when there is no need for extra income. Her purpose in life right now is to take care of her family and there is nothing wrong with that. Like someone said, Payal isn't shown all that much in the show and when she is she is shown to be caring about Aakash especially now that he has gotten so busy that he is not eating right. Before, we never saw her asking him about his meals, rather Aakash was seen taking care of her and defending her. Now she is supporting him in his time of need, when he has to juggle his and Arnav's work together to keep the company going in Arnav's absence.

I have always understood that payal's role has not been used to it's fullest potential but for once I feel her and Aakash have a good story going, where they are experiencing normal husband-wife attention issues. The romance is cute and fitting to the opposite struggling love with Arnav and Khushi. It shows a good contrast in the love between the two couples.

I mean seriously not once has she asked Khushi about how Shyam has been behaving with her post marriage, where we viewers have been privi to. And now all these days that Khushi has shown to be troubled, Payal has been shown to be completely oblivious to Khushi's sufferings and they are supposedly close. Isn't this the same Payal who had stood up to ASR in Khushi defense after the Guest house incidence. Where has she disappeared.
