LUGAAI means a WIFE.

And I wonder why Shiv is not showing expression at these words.. may be already realized that..because MAANG TIKA is worn by MARRIED WOMEN only. And Anandi wears one.

Anandi is divorcing Jajayya. She should remove the Maang tika now.

Even I am not clear. Wish anyone from Rajastan clarified that.

But in one movie, I saw a poor rajasthani married woman wearing a Tika tied to her chutiya (braid) through string, her chooda (of course kaanch ki chudiyaan) and neck ornament.
When her husband dies, she removed all the three.

When I watched the episode, it seemed as if Heth Singh said lugai in very generic terms as in "women/wives should stay at home". He was taunting Anandi, but his statement in itself seemed very generic. Till now, there is nothing about Anandi that should indicate that she is married. Her situation is unusual, the topic of her husband has never come up, and Dadisa has always presented Anandi as their daughter. If I were Shiv I would have taken Heth Singh's statement as generic and not really indicating that Anandi is married since nothing else around her doesn't indicate that. Also, Shiv is right now not interested in knowing whether Anandi is married or not, so he doesn't pay attention to detail.

In India, if someone wears mangalsutra or sindoor they are clear signs of being married. Anandi doesn't do either of these, so no signs of marriage.

A widow usually does not wear ornaments, but I doubt there is as yet an established norm for women going thru a divorce. She is getting un-married, she is not in mourning for a lost love.

Hence, she has full rights to stay decked up and look for the next guy. 😉😆

Yes - sindoor, glass bangles and bichhiya (toe rings Perseus - 😊) are only for married women. And I can't see her toe-rings. Maang-tika can stay - sooni maang is only for widows.

I think U saw Rudaali. That was a very poignant scene indeed.

A traditional widow will take off all "singaar", but most nowadays don't take off everything - except the main things like mangalsutra, sindoor, glass bangles n bicchiya. Women will still keep on their basic gold chain, gold bangles and payal. My grandma - who was very traditional - even she took off her glass bangles, but kept her gold ones on.

Its that gold piece she wears on her head - the thing that covers the parting(maang) in her hair where she wud normally apply sindoor.

I think it is supposed to be for good luck, like it will keep her sindoor safe (hence her married life too).

i am rajsthani...and as some of you said...its truth...this maang tika is borla (means which is round in shape and like a ball) or mang tika(means whic is in circle shape but back of it will be plain),this now a days in city in modern socity or in function young girls in cermony likes to wear for fashion...but what my grndy and maa said kee still in our village if any girl wear this means if a mang tika is wore which has flat back means that girl is engaged and if she wore borla means she is married...and still places in rajesthan...most of the places people still follow this tradiotins...and in city it is jsut a means of fashin on acasions...thats what i have a knowledge...
