It is called paraadvaita and it really differs from Shankara's advaita.
For example, Maya for Shankara is an illusion, it doesn't really exist, when for Kashmiri Shivaism it's a real tattva, maifestation of Shakti herself. In KS they don't deny personal existence of God, whenever for Sankara's advaita the main source of creation is nirguna brahman.
So, some difference exists, but it's difficult for me to describe it correctly and in detail

Neither am i capable of understanding the finer nuances.
Hmm, It sounds a lot like shakta philosophy. there are divisions too, but there too, maya is a manifestation of shakti and you worship the mother so that she removes the shroud of maya.
I am more of a bhakti person, shankar with his ka taba kanta et al is not really much appealing to me.
