I know what you mean, but i think really they're still in the process of making ppl aware of how bad ppl's plight is when it comes to weddings and dowries etc.
They'll probably do another epi on marital abuse at a later stage where hopefully women will be made aware of what organisations/help there is out there for them.
Hopefully in the next series, they'll take it a step further and outline more do's and don'ts - ultimately its up to victims to decide whether they want a standard of life or if they want to cater to society's demands.

Dowry episode brought me the memories of my dudhwala who would always ask money from my mother because he has to save up for his daughter's dowry. I remember at the day of his daughter's wedding (I must be like 10 yrs old), he bought Godrej almari, sofa set and tv for the groom...I have seen him getting so restless for his daughter's dowry...

Heartfelt episode with inspiring stories...

Mitzi - Like you said that a lot of issues arise out of gender inequality. But quite a bit out of lack of self confidence in women too.

In my opinion a lecturer who commits suicide because of harassment by in-laws has no business teaching in the first place coz she's only going to impart her warped world view to her students.

After 30 years of active social work, strong laws and awareness campaigns, if women are still choosing to live in hell in the name of marriage then the problem is with the women.

I'll give two instances from my personal knowledge - a cousin got married and immediately after that her husband started harassing her for dowry. She like a cow kept coming back to her mother's house and "borrowing" money on some pretext or the other. She even "borrowed" money from a few relatives.

The day her mother got to know of the true state of affairs, she brought the daughter home, sent a telegram to all her friends and family that if her Son in law was to approach them, no money should be given to him under any circumstance.

My aunt got my cousin divorced and got her to become independent.

Incident two - a young girl was getting married to a ISB graduate. The boy had an excellent job and a brilliant career planned. On the day of the marriage the boy's mother approached the girl's family demanding a flat and a car. The boy told the girl that unless his parents demands were not met he would not go through with the ceremony. The girl got off the podium where she was greeting guests and walked out of the function hall. By nightfall, they had the groom's family literally falling on their feet begging forgiveness, coz the girl had informed everyone on FB and the ISB alumni broadsheet about the boy's action.

Loved it !
I am really proud of the mom in the first case and the girl in the 2nd...Aamir should be informed so that he does another episode giving live example to other Indian society...so people care for children and self first and then society.
Be it be Child abuse or Dowry, parents mostly think about what would people say...and the girl thinks (dowry scenario) what would people say to me and parents...no one thinks what will happen to us ...society is made by us to protect us not to be a burden on us!

@Chitrashi : I've always loved your posts (hint-maryada)

I agree its in girl's hand to either make it or break it.
We live in 21st century ,yes society is cruel but there r exceptions too.
Even if you dont have the highest of the degree, dont fear go out and enjoy.
You've one life and live it to the fullest not like a doormat .
