Regarding 18 May

It's easy to say would've could've should've. But I'm going to do so anyway. 😆

1) Gulabiya's nod to Sugni when she had the chance to speak. It looked like a go-ahead, but perhaps not, for Gulabiya would've spoken up and told Sugni to speak if she wanted Sugni to speak.

2) Sugni's speaking probably wouldn't have achieved anything. But why would the villagers step in forward to support Vikram when Sugni herself remained quiet? Of course had she not remained quiet, Jwala might have never put it to a "vote." But as it happened, if Sugni keeps quiet, well why wouldn't they?

3) The women still pleaded for Sugni and her family. This is what I loved about the show from the second episode. See the community is not filled with cold, heartless women. We saw how they shielded Sugni in the second episode. We saw how they gave her all the pots and scarves. Though they didn't know know what she would do with it, they know Sugni, knew about her first 'tamasha' and know this girl will always cook up something; but still they lent things to her.

In the end though, most will turn away and look out for their own welfare. But can you blame them? What about Sugni's own family? What exact punishment was doled out on the crazy lady? She's crazy now. But she probably became that way after her punishment. Did Sugni and her family look after her? Or did they mind their own business and look after their own matters?

Which brings me to another point.

4) Gulabiya. Gulabiya should've just told Sugni to speak up. The verdict had been given. The worst is that the verdict would stay, which seemed to be the case anyway. Were they going to dole out a harsher punishment? I doubt it. This punishment is harsh in itself, as they were reminded seeing the crazy woman collecting--whatever--from the ground. So why not just let Sugni speak? At least to show some gratitude to this man who's just defended and spoken up for Sugni and her family.

Lubbed your post 👏..🤗Specially the bits in bold. The tribe here is not shown as a heartless bunch of women but really warm ,live people who actually stand up for each other but at the end of the day all are humans who have a family of their own to fend forYa me too specially lubbed the second episode where all the bednis stand as a shield in front of Sugni ...
But at the end of the day ,all are real human beings who belong to a strata of society who have to strive and struggle to live every passing second
Oh and Regarding the muteness of Sugni..I too agree that if her mom really wanted her to speak up ,she should have better spoken up 😕

yup its easy to say would've, could've, but we like doing it anyway.😆
I think even if Sugni had spoken up things would have gone badly for her since Jwala surely had this thing preplanned. Vikram being a newcomer could somehow manage to give her a chance to speak but I don't think anyone or anything could have stopped the punishment from happening.

Firstly, if Sugni gets everything without fighting, it would be unrealstic, plus there would be no storyline to pursue. For me, this made an interesting contrast to the first confrontation where she told JT, quite cheekily, that she also forgives him ! In a village completely ruled by thakurs, she couldn't get away with such audacity twice. So they showed her a little broken down this time, albeit due to her mother's promise.

Second, this opens up the possibility of Vikram misunderstanding, or at least having mixed feelings for her. Also it will make her situation desperate enough that further interference by Vikram (and maybe Aditya?) is warranted, thus allowing the story to move forward.

And you are right about the other bedias, they are downtrodden and afraid of the thakurs, the pleading was more or less the limit of what they could have done realistically.

Regarding Sugni speaking up, my problem with that is that it would have looked a little unnecessary. Given that the punishment was bound to happen, her speaking would have achieved some sort of emotional satisfaction in us viewers, but it had the danger of becoming a sermon, much like the sermons spouted by the self-righteous bahus in many other serials, every chance they get. Given that she couldn't effectively defend herself this time, in the interest of the story moving forward, I felt it was better she kept completely silent. I did feel bad looking at her so quiet at the panchayat, but now I feel it was probably a good thing. She is, after all, a naive eighteen year old, she's by no means a seasoned warrior, she should be simply defeated by circumstances some times, its normal. That way, we get to see her growing from her failure, fighting to find new ways for her dreams to come true.😊

@atria. Agreed, especially at the bold. That thought did come to me as I watched. That as a creative decision, there was a valid reason for her keeping quiet. 😆

I also felt Gulabiya gave a nod to Sugni to speak up and thought she would do but no she did not maybe there was a editing error or something chopped off from that scene.
though all Bednis seem to support each other but finally its everyone has to save their skin.
Takurian JS looks more wicked and wants to take revenge from Gulabiya and family for the public insult to herself(1st time also because of Sugni when her son wanted Sugni his own illegitimate sister and TJS publically insulted her) and family and also maybe that she was one time TJS Bedni.🤢

That second episode is what I always bring up when I recommend this show. When the girls/women shielded Sugni, I really think I had some tears in my eyes. I know it hit me emotionally a bit, because it was just something unexpected and touching.

That and the guts to make him her brother really impressed me.

Thakurain is an angry, frustrated lady who has never got any respect or love from her husband. The other relationships she had, such as with her muh-bola brother Haldi, were also broken due to circumstances. She has her sons support, but she knows that her hold on him is tenuous, she can't really stop him from doing anything he wants. If she was the quiet sort, she would have cried and possibly committed suicide, like many other thakurains must have (Haldi's wife). She has a strong, aggressive personality, but not the vision to plan any major changes in her life. Hence she is thirsting for revenge against Gulabiya and her kin who keep coming in her way.

Think about it from her point of view. First, Gulabiya probably got much more of the thakurs affection than her at one point of time. Then Gulabiya's daughter was the cause of her sons public humiliation. Of course, as a mother, she knows her sons faults (e.g. warning him in the mela), but again, just like she did as the wife, she prefers to blame the outsider. Then Gulabiya came to ask her husband for money, to her it must have seemed like an attempt to get him back. So to her frustrated, warped soul, Sugni and her mother keep jumping into her life, and she just wants to finish them off.

I quite enjoy seeing things from thakurain's point of view. If only she had been able to dream, she could have been another Sugni, but without that one crucial component she became cruel and evil.😃

This is an interesting point, Atria😳...She is such a coldbloodedly venomous woman...but still a hurt woman too...Thakurs and their clan have created such a horrible society...that women all across..inside or outside their house are being exploited in one or the other way..both women are being abused and used by the philandering Thakurs..and now are ready to be against each other...

So can someone please clarify this for me. I don't feel like watching again.

Hadn't Jwala Thakur already declared that no one should help out the family? I mean before Thakurani reiterated it and took it further. The only thing they should be surprised about is that they can't buy food with the money they still have. But why in the world was Gulabiya being so stupid and not leaving when her friend kept telling her to leave? She had just supported Gulabiya's family.

Again I want to bring up this point. How did that crazy woman go crazy? Did all of the community shun her as well? Probably. No one dared support her, either. I get that as humans it hurts and you expect something. So the family's hoping there will be some support or acknowledgement is not surprising.

But still...this has happened before.
