My mom is a professor in a reputed university. And I have seen even her educated colleagues not spending much on their daughter's higher education because they want to save up all money for shaadi!

All they dream of is being able to pay kickass dowry - yes those who can afford it, think of it as a status symbol - ki humne apni ladki ko itna kuch de kar bheja hai!🤢

I know a lot of people who refused to get their daughters admitted in professional colleges or better universities and did not send them abroad or even to other city - simply because they felt spending money on education was useless, saving money for wedding was more important!😡

Parents sometimes believe giving large amount of dowry to girl shows their status, their ''love'' for the girl and also ensures their daughter is well taken care of in her in-laws home, because she brought a lot of wealth with her. Pathetic mentality fuelling a crass custom!

Of course, boys' parents are only too delighted at the prospects of moolah they can extort from girl's family once their son grows up and is of marriageable age.

Even in this age, in urban educated families too, girls are either praised or taunted depending on what they ''bring'' with them in marriage or what their parents gave them!🤢

It's bound to be another brilliant show, can't wait to watch.
Its this stupid dowry system that's partly to blame for female foeticide in india - ppl start panicking about marrying girls off as soon as they're born.
And there are so many cases of inlaws abusing their daughter in law over the dowry issue that don't get reported.

You know I often wonder what kind of people the boys parents are that they shamelessly ask for car, electronics and other valuables for selling their son! Dont they feel ashamed to ask for stuff like that?

I mean are they beggars? Any self respecting person will not ask another person for anything costly like that. Then how come sons parents ask for that like greedy beggars?
Thats how I see them, as greedy beggars who have a lot themselves and still want more and they get that "more" from brides families by shamelessly asking for all that stuff!

I am a boy's mom (although hes only a kid now😆) but I can never ever dream of asking any girls father for anything when my son gets married! I can never belittle myself and my son like that! Then what kind of people are these who have neither shame nor self respect that they ask directly for material goods in exchange for their son's hand in marriage? 🤢
How many disgusting parents like that in India? Millions? Or just thousands?

When I got married I had pledged not to marry anyone who asks for dowry! Every Indian girl shd make that pledge as that will preserve the self respect of the bride and groom and both families as well!
